Sure, slavery does exists. And we knew the Celestial Dragons can have multiple wives, but this … this hits closer to home when it happens to a named character. Poor Ginny. Kidnapping. Rape. Murder. Slavery. I’ve mentioned before how Oda has made the Celestial Dragons irredeemable. He’s really pushing that there’s no way the CDs can stay in power. They must be overthrown. One Piece cannot end on a happy note otherwise.
If my math is right, Bonney should be around twelve or thirteen years old! That explains Dr. Vegapunk treating her like a little girl. He probably also treated Bonney’s sapphire scales disease. That would explain why Bonney was on Egghead years ago. Dragon most likely asked Vegapunk to help. So… does that mean Papa Kuma willingly let himself become Vegapunk’s pacifista experiment as a way of paying him back for saving Bonney? Hmm…
Glad to see Kuma enjoying a little happiness in his life by raising Bonney. And with his devil fruit power he can just pop Bonney’s dirty diapers into the trash. Lucky bastard.
Will we ever know who’s Bonney’s biological daddy is? Do we want to know? I’ve seen some theories online and frankly, any CD we’ve met being Bonney’s father would be awful.
King Bekori’s being an ass again, setting fire to Sorbet Kingdom. Time for Kuma to takeover as Sorbet’s new king. The World Government will label him a “Tyrant” to make themselves look good and then he’ll become a cyborg. It’s One Piece. Stuff like this happens all the time.
This was a good chapter! Watching Kuma’s past has been quite a ride, and it’s not over yet. I will say, I’m over the dying/dead mom flashback trope in One Piece. And for Ginny to die in such a tragic way after being forced to marry a rapist piece of garbage is just too much. What the hell is Oda gonna do if we have another flashback mom? Oh, no. Dragon’s inevitable flashback has to include Luffy’s mom! Tell me you aren’t giving Mama Luffy the worst mom flashback of all, Oda. You sick bastard! I’m telling Akira Toriyama on you!

I know he’ll finish the chapter by the time we get to the volume release- be it because of his pride as a mangaka(One of the LEGENDARIES at that) or because it’s just standard practice- but based on everything that I’ve seen from fans on Youtube and Twitter; I feel like Oda might be able tog et away with NOT finishing the chapter. According to a lot of fans, the unfinished art makes the Tragedy of what’s going on stand more- like it makes the………… BREAKING of Kuma all the more apparent- the unfinished art shows off his mental state the deeper into this misery he goes.
And that’s the OTHER thing about this: KUMA’S BEING PUT THROUGH THE WRINGER. Riddle Me This: “What Gets Bigger The More You Take Away From It?” Come the end of this flashback- all that’ll be left of Kuma is………. well; what we have in the present day.
My current mindset of what happens with Bonney: Vegapunk makes a clone of her, minus the Sapphire Scale disease in her blood. As for THIS Bonney- Kuma can push out Memories all that; perhaps he pushed out all of what makes Bonney “Bonney-” something closer to the “Soul” than his own memory bubble- and placed it in that body. And yeah; the agreement likely ended with him becoming a Cyborg. Or more likely, he just offered his body for experimentation, but the World Government(more specifically Saturn) caught wind of not only a Buccaneer but also THE Escaped Buccaneer slave from God Valley being experimented on by their lead Scientist, and…………. well, you see what’s happened.
The only loose end left is the “King Of The Sorbet Kingdom” bit- next chapter is gonna tell us all about that, I’m sure.
I hope Oda’s doing well; all these horror stories from mangka- the recent story with Horikoshi, what happened to Yoshihiro Togashi, Masashi Kishimoto trying to break his foot on a book case just to get a BREAK- it’s stuff like this that makes you 1)Wonder why ANYONE would choose to go into this field and 1)Commend the people who stay in it and deliver consistent quality for as long as Oda! He’s turned in manuscripts LATE before, but never UNFINISHED. It either speaks to the tragedy of what he’s drawing(the one time he turned in a late manuscript that I know of was the Kyros flashback, which moved he and his then editor to tears looking at it), or to his health as a 50 Year Old man still drawing manga the way he does.

With Oda it can be any number of reasons to why the chapter’s unfinished from health to just being busy. I just hope it’s not a health reason.
That Bonney theory. Hmm… That’s a crazy theory. And I love it! Especially, Kuma pushing her soul/memories into the Bonney clone. It’s really f-ed up but also interesting.
Shonen Jump is gonna have to change their ways at some point. I just hope it’s not at the expense of someone dying. I just hope the trend of mangaka going to bi-weekly/monthly publishers continues.
