Wasted Potential: The Mina Ashido Story [My Hero Academia 383]

You’re NOT weak, Ashido!

Hirokoshi just wants us to think you are. Acid powers are strong. Given enough training you can melt just about anything. Not to mention the speed you gain sliding along the ground. You can cover yourself in it to use as a shield or simply go on the offensive. It’s versatile, powerful, and just plain cool. But…Mina Ashido’s a girl so it’s portrayed as weak. Geez!

I’m glad Ashido got a character arch. Overcoming her fear of Gigantomachia from junior high coupled with the drama of him killing so many heroes is great to see. Too bad it had to happen in the final arc where I doubt she’s gonna get much more of that precious/limited screentime. Hope you enjoyed this chapter, Pinky fans, because I doubt you’re gonna see much more of her doing anything spectacular.

Horikoshi can’t stop sh*tting on Mina
Never fight a woman with big…acid attacks!

Yeah, I’m bitter. I thought Horikoshi was gonna break the mold, showing how powerful female characters can be. And yeah, we had our moments (Star & Stripes, moments with Class A girls here and there, etc.) but I wanted more. I wanted female characters among the Top 5 strongest Class A students. I wanted more badass female villains. I wanted Froppy to be the Spider-man of frogs, Yaoyorozu as capable as Ed from Full Metal Alchemist, and Ashido to be a mid-range attacking monster. Oh, well! Who needs that when Ashido can talk about how weak she is because…? She was afraid? Get out of your head, kid and kick some more ass!

Who’s in the helicopters? The press? International heroes? Save this manga, Skycrawler! I’m begging you!

And All For One’s getting pinned down. Sure, whatever.

Poor All For One’s gonna need at least three mimosas after a day like this

This was a decent chapter! I can see what Horikoshi was going for with Mina but damn it! She’s so much more powerful a character to be treated like some loser C-lister who occasionally pulls off a win. Once again I’m underwhelmed by Horikoshi’s choices for this series. Also, his choices of socks. Really, Hori? Black, knee-high socks on a hot day? I pity you, Sir.

Ashido IS a interesting character to think about; her acid abilties have a lot of potential to put up there with some of the stronger characters in Class A. Though I have to admit; in my mind, I saw some Class A kids quitting being Heroes going into this finale. Ashido was one of them.
Basically anyone who’s not a “Front Runner” Character. Izuku, Shoto, Bakugo, Uraraka, Ilda, Tsu, possibly Yaoyorozu, Kirishima, and Tokoyami. Other than that- GONE. But what we’re getting here…… not bad; not bad at all!
Though I’ll ALSO admit……. at ONE point……. I thought about writing a Fanfiction for her. NOT ANYTHING P0RNOGR@PHIC; simply a guy getting isekai’d into the series as Ashido- something more along the lines of “That Time I Got Reincarnated As Yamcha” in a longer format. Nothing any more perverse than what Horikoshi has done with this series- which wasn’t that much to begin with.
Yeah, I’m kind of ready to kiss All For A Great Big Let Down myself. Hopefully we don’t have that much longer to wait before he’s out of our faces for good,

Someone from Class A leaving would’ve been a great story beat. At the very least someone from Class B could’ve left.

Ashido just got lost in the cracks or was used to for drama’s sake. Come on, Horikoshi. Is it so wrong to want to see heroes doing hero stuff who isn’t the Class A Big 3?
