This could be Luffy’s final zoan fight.
Not counting Blackbeard if he’s got a zoan now, of course. It’s awakened zoan VS awakened zoan. Wasn’t sure if Rob Lucci would be a worthy opponent against Luffy, but it was stated long ago that he’s a fighting genius. That plus mastering his devil fruit sealed the deal. Plus, it’s a way for Luffy to gain more experience fighting in Gear 5 before his inevitable fight against Blackbeard. And let’s not forget Luffy VS Lucci allows OG Dr. Vegapunk to explain devil fruits to the Straw Hat Crew, specifically, the “Gum-Gum” fruit. Luffy doesn’t care, but it’s nice his crew knows how special their captain’s devil fruit is.
Devil fruits are born through hope? They’re people’s dreams realized? What are you smokin’, Dr. Vegapunk? You know you’re not allowed to prescribe cannabis to yourself, right? I was definitely expecting a more science-fiction explanation of devil fruits. But, I’m sure there’ s more to the story. We’re probably supposed to be confused until Oda drops more info bombs. Fine. I can wait.

Poor Sentomaru. His navy career’s over, but I don’t think he’s dying.
Kizaru was on his way to Egghead Island because of a prior operation? Interesting? Maybe he was planning on picking up a couple of Seraphim to help save Koby from Blackbeard? …Nah! The Navy’s top brass wouldn’t authorize a mission like that just to save Koby. Unless… They were ordered to do something else they thought was more important at the same time. Hmm…
Speaking of the Seraphim, I guess the Straw Hats will fight them. S-Hawk VS Zoro incoming? And will we see S-Flamingo, S-Crocodile, and S-Gecko? The Warlord System got replaced by these kids; you’d think the World Government would have a full set before dissolving the super group. If the Seraphim are defeated on Egghead, the World Government is screwed. Or maybe Dr. Vegapunk will send them to the Revolutionaries? Nah! That’s too easy a win for Team Dragon. Unless one of the Five Elders arrives on Egghead and takes direct control of the Seraphim, I don’t see the kids saying with the World Government.
Kizaru. Light pressure gloves. Both in the same arc. That can’t be a coincidence. Is Oda setting Kizaru up for a beat down? If Vegapunk’s boots can also interact with light, then will Sanji be the one handing the light admiral his ass on a platter? Now that I’d love to see!
This was a good chapter! The part about how devil fruits can exist had me confused, but I’m loving where it and the rest of the arc is going. The Seraphim are one of the Great Powers in One Piece. If they go, the world will fall into chaos even faster. Even worse than when disco died. Those were dark times, Y’all. Well, not that dark with so many disco balls around, but you get what I mean.

Hm…… I didn’t really think about what Kizaru’s mission was on Egghead. Maybe he has something to do on the other side of the island or something. But yeah; those Light Pressure Gloves are gonna be part of his downfall…….
It’s possible that his theory is JUST a theory, but I kind of like the idea. In fact, to take it a step further; it might be that the Nika fruit- and possibly ALL Mythical Zoans, and even the Logia- are born from “Human dreams,” while the sillier Paramecia and the Zoan were made artificially by the Ancient Kingdom. I don’t know how they managed to replicate the reincarnation mechanic, but…….. it’s not impossible.
I definitely want to see S-Flamingo- probably the most of ANY Seraphim. It would be the ULTIMATE Middle finger to Doffy that they have a clone of him that takes ORDERS instead of giving them.

I’m willing to see where Oda goes with it, but I’m starting to think whatever the reason devil fruits came to be, I’m gonna be disappointed with the truth. Sometimes it’s better not to look behind the curtain.

I feel like that’s a lot of people’s mindsets. But for me, at least; I think I’ll just be happy to have an answer. Now HAKI’S origins aren’t something that I see Oda discussing really- or at least, not outwardly in the story.
