Meet the Geek: Inagaki Riichiro (Dr. Stone)

dr-stone-9935635

Welcome. I recently sat down with Dr. Stone author, Inagaki Riichiro, to discuss certain developments in the popular science manga.

Thank you for sitting with me today, Inagaki-sensei.
A pleasure.

Let’s dive into it. Incest. Your manga did not shy away inferring the village Senku visits was created solely due to incest.
Yes. I felt it is the logical conclusion of this particular situation.

Well, at least Senku’s not related to them. Does that mean Senku will end up marrying someone from the village? Kohaku, maybe?
Who knows? *laughs*

Why didn’t the astronauts implement a system where each male/female couple had a child to spread out the gene pool?
Fun. If you can’t have fun after the apocalypse, what’s the point in living?

What about the incest?
What about it?

Incest is frowned upon in most of the world.
Oh, so you’re a conformist now, Mr. Hipster? Need I remind Dr. Stone takes place after the apocalypse. The choice of incest is moot over the survival of the human race.

Well, I guess.
What do you want me to do?
“All of humanity is pretty much dead. Oh, our mistake. Random City A survived so we can continue on without the consequences of the world being destroyed.” The world ended and you’re worried about siblings doing it?

When you put it that way…
Hard choices had to be made. At least the orgies are a nice break from thinking where your next meal is coming.

Excuse me? Did you say orgies?
Well, yeah. Post-apocalypse, right? Don’t you think humanity lost enough without losing the joy of orgies?

I didn’t read anything about that in the last issues.
It’s implied. Think about it? What’s the point being discreet?

So, humanity survived by having incestuous orgies?
Yes.

But, the village doesn’t do them now?
……..

The celebration party!
Why do you think I had Senku leave for the graveyard?

This is mind blowing.
Among other things. At least Senku isn’t related in anyway to the village so everything’s fine.

I guess. But, what about the issue with genetics? Shouldn’t this much inbreeding create, I don’t know, malformed people or something?
Come on, man. It’s a manga. Don’t take it too literally.

Well, thank you for your time and I hope Dr. Stone stays strong many years to come.
Thank you everyone for supporting me.

Okay, that’s a wrap. Good interview, Inagaki-sensei.
Boichi drew orgy scenes for my private collection. Want a look?

Hell yeah! Are we still recording?
