All Might, All Alone?

All Might00

What does it take to be the number one hero? Power, sure. Determination, of course. Charisma, you bet. A family, well…

All Might, the number one hero of Japan in the hit series My Hero Academia, has an unknown past. We know some things, such as Toshinori (All Might) himself coming up with the idea to become a living symbol of peace to deter criminals and give hope to the masses. We know *spoilers spoilers spoilers* his predecessor was killed very early in his career. So early, in fact, Shimura’s friend, Gran Torino had to become a teacher at UA just to train Toshinori into a competent fighter.

Of course, there’s so much more we don’t know. How did Shimura meet Toshinori? Why was Toshinori so interested in becoming a hero in the first place? How was his home life? Are his parents still alive? Does he have other relatives? Is one of his parents American, explaining his blue eyes, blonde hair and use of American places for attacks names? Did–well, you get the idea. My focus today is on one of these mysteries; does All Might have a lover?

Every time we see the guy he’s either working as a hero or teacher at UA. That’s it. Except for mentoring Midoriya but that falls under teaching in my book. Now, granted, All Might can’t stay in his muscle form as long as he used to so that gives our number one more time for other activities. But, what does he do? More teaching? Cleaning his hero office? Playing with his kid? You heard me, kid. Could All Might have a kid? A family? Remember, Shimura had a family but she opted to pass One For All, the quirk that gives All Might his power, to Toshinori. Maybe All Might did the same.

Or, maybe All Might was scarred by the death of his predecessor’s spouse and abandonment of her child to protect him. Maybe All Might thought “You know what? As the number one hero and number one target of every supervillian in the country, it would be best if I don’t have a family.” And with that All Might sacrificed a possible family life for peace. Your welcome, Japan.

Or did he? Maybe All Might learned from Shimura how to correctly balance a private and hero life. All Might is strong but he’s no dummy. He could’ve met the right person and is now enjoying life with that person under everyone’s nose. But, who could it be? Who could fully understand what being not only a hero, but the number one hero entails? Who could understand the true dangers involved? The need to do what’s right even though it can get you killed one day? And, who will know and relate to having to work long hours, even days or weeks, to save people in need? The true love of his life that’s who:

Tsukauchi

Could Kohei Horikoshi, mangaka of My Hero Academia,  be setting us up for a possible romantic relationship between All Might and Tsukauchi? Horikoshi is a forward thinking guy. He’s had a transgender person (Tiger) and a male person who identifies himself as female (Magne), so why not a gay hero?

But, it’s shounen, you idiot, I hear you say. Yeah, I can hear your thoughts. Well, maybe Horikoshi doesn’t care. Maybe he’s betting his audience won’t too. Or, maybe he’ll be super subtle about it. But, it’s possible. Then again, I could be reading way too much into it. In fact, I am. But, if…IF it does happen you can say you read about it here first (or eighth, this is the internet, home of every possible theory ever). You’re welcome, World.
