Well, Excuse Me, Princess! [One Piece 1173]

Can’t have an One Piece arc these days without having to save a princess. Huh, Oda?

A young woman with blue hair and no pants. Imu really has a thing for that type of lover. Or, should I say sex slave? Or are we going to believe an evil bastard like Imu isn’t gonna take advantage of a young brainwashed woman? Imu Epstein aside, looks like we’re getting another damsel-in-distress princess for the Straw Hats to save.

And, with that to look forward to, we’ll soon see someone with a deep-sea contract freed from Imu’s control. Will that come with a side of Shuri/Brook backstory? Probably. And don’t even think about Shuri not being redeemed for all of her brainwashed shenanigans for dessert. What? Did you really think Gunko (a woman who’s NOT a mom in a flashback) was gonna die? In One Piece? Ha!

Who knew Hajrudin and Stansen were so petty. They should change their group name to The New Butthutt Pirates.

So, Zoro’s big-brained plan was just attacking from above. Simple, yet effective. Not exactly worthy of being hyped-up last chapter, but it’s a weekly series. Every chapter can’t end on a cliffhanger that pays off. See, Oda? I can be understanding, sometimes.

Last Time On… [One Piece 1172]

Flashback’s over. Let’s get back to the Straw Hats!

…A recap chapter!? NOOOOO!

Guess I’ll touch on the non-recappy parts, like Chief Jarul finally coming (somewhat) clean about what went down in Aurust Castle fourteen years ago. I still think it was a dumb decision to stay quiet, but I like Jarul going with keeping the secret in order to prevent a losing war against the World Government as a valid reason. That makes more sense than the B.S. reasons Loki was spewing out in the flashback.

Zoro has a plan. Well, I’ve got one too: Burn down the boats! No boats. No trips off Elbaph. That could be Zoro’s plan too. Either that, or just cutting Branch 8 so the kids can’t reach the harbor. Oh Zoro! I’m—erm—I mean YOU are such a genius! And mad cute too! ♥

So who’s gonna do what? Prediction time!

Wait. You said three enemies or Mr. 3? Sorry, I’m listening to Beck’s new album.

Hope You Like Flashbacks [One Piece 1152]

Because you’re getting a flashback within a flashback. A three-minute explanation? Yeah, right.

You know… Thanks to One Piece Live Action, I miss the simpler arcs of One Piece. Where arcs didn’t have the main duty of expositing world and character lore while constantly setting up the final war arc of the series.

Weird, right? I’m all about the One Piece lore, yet here I am complaining about it. But I don’t hate it, not at all! I just want more of the fun stuff that made me fall in love with One Piece too. The Straw Hats interacting with each other, the zany villains, the feeling of a grand adventure instead of constant melodrama p0rn. This is a different manga than what began.

Here we are at the flashback portion of the arc and I’m just going through the motions. Sure, I’m excited about the coming lore dumps, but then it’s back to Basic Bro Imu the Evil and his boring henchmen. The only thing interesting about Imu is the mystery boxes surrounding him. I need more than that for a character to interest me.

Worst part is Loki spent the morning tap dancing inside a barn.

Admiral Brosalino [One Piece 1124]

O brother, where art thou?

Giving Fleet Admiral Sakazuki a verbal boot to the butt, apparently. It’s no surprise Admiral Kizaru’s devastated over killing his close friend. We’ve seen hints of it throughout the arc. It’s also a major reason the Straw Hats managed to escape. Kizaru’s heart just wasn’t in this operation. He managed to fulfill his basic duty of killing Dr. Vegapunk Stella then called it quits. Make no mistake, a bloodlust Kizaru would’ve presented Luffy’s laughing Gear 5 head on a platter for St. Saturn. Once again, Luffy gained an advantage against a stronger opponent in a major fight that gave him the win. Maybe Oda should change the name of the series from One Piece to Cheat Code.

Sakazuki calling Borsalino “brother” was unexpected. Just how close are these two? Could they be blood-related or is it a Luffy-Ace-Sabo situation? Either way, it’s nice seeing some humanity from Sakazuki.

It’s a known fact that 6 out of 7 doctor Vegapunks endorse their survival. Unfortunately, only two actually lived to tell the tale. And surprise, surprise! The two Vegapunks who made it were both attractive women. Never change, Oda. Because, you won’t. I’m just hoping the actual One Piece isn’t just a women’s big ass in a thong. Look, don’t blame me it if happens. I’m just the messenger.

Not the best way to invite someone to your private Minecraft server, Kizaru.

Battle Of The Planets [One Piece 1110]

Imagine your grumpy, demonic powered grandpa telling you to turn off that blasted television or else. You choose else, so he and his four demon buddies decide to turn the TV off themselves. And, you along with it.

One Piece chapter 1110 is what I expected and more. Indeed, I expected to see the other four of the Five Elders appearing on Egghead. I didn’t, however, expect them to immediately get down to business. No threats. No monologuing. No hesitation. Say what you want about Boomers being out of touch, but they know how to get down to business.

Based on the chapter, St. Mars, the only flying member of the geriatric group, is trying to destroy the source of Dr. Vegapunk’s transmission located in the Labophase. St. Nusjuro’s disabling of the Pacifistas, my guess, is meant to flip the Navy back on the offensive. They’re now free to continue the Buster Call as well as fully pursue Jewelry Bonney. But lets be real, we’re in this arc’s endgame. They’re not making much of an impact going forward.

Forget Luffy. Somebody call the Ghostbusters!
