Endeavor is NOT a Good Person (My Hero Academia)

Endeavor00

He’s a complex person, sure. But, not good.

Ran across a YouTube video praising Endeavor, the current number one hero, for reaching out to Toshinori on how to become the new symbol of peace. While I do agree Endeavor even approaching him is admirable, I can’t agree with the video’s other points, mainly trying to excuse Endeavor’s previous bad behavior.

Endeavor, physically and emotionally, abused his wife to the point she threw boiling water on her child. That is horrible. Of course, both parents are responsible, but the wife’s actions is a direct response to the harsh treatment done to her by her husband. I get people love redemption characters, but trying to downplay Endeavor’s treatment of his wife and child just because you’re starting the like the character is wrong. If you must judge someone, do it based on their life as a whole, don’t cherry pick or hand wave the bad parts because a character reached an epiphany he may not be the greatest person in the universe.

I personally love where Endeavor’s character is going. I hope he becomes worthy of the number one hero title, but the guy has a LONG way to go on the path of redemption. A heart-to-heart with Toshinori only puts him at the starting line. But, if anyone can give Endeavor the kick in the butt he needs to become truly great it’s Toshinori.

Also, it’ll have more impact when he’s killed. Oh! Did I say that out loud? From my lips to Hirokoshi’s pencil.

Meet the Geek: Camie (My Hero Academia)

Camie00

Time to end this discussion once and for all. I sat down with Shiketsu’s very own Camie to learn if she really was who she claimed to be.

Redgeek: Thank you for coming, Toga. I know this is a busy time for you.
Camie: My name’s Camie. Can I get your contact info?
Redgeek: So…killed anyone lately? You know, someone blocking you on the way to school, a waiter getting your order wrong, or even—I don’t know—a high school student whose blood you consumed so you can infiltrate one of the best hero schools in the country?
Camie: Have my own Discord channel if you want to join.
Redgeek: Hmmm…. Okay, you’re a friendly young lady. Tell me about your friends.
Camie: Oh, I have lots of friends! Always fun hanging out when not training.
Redgeek: Older friends? With many hands or burn scars?
Camie: What are you talking about?
Redgeek: Look, I just wanna know if you’re Toga in disguise.
Camie: What? No way! I’m Camie, see how happy and well adjusted I am. I’m just your average Japanese girl who can’t go one chapter without talking about a boy.
Redgeek: *sigh* I really need to talk to Hirokoshi again. Anyway, if you are Camie then what’s up with that bloody knife on the table.
Camie: No, no. That’s ketchup. I was making French fries.
Redgeek: Cutting French fries after pouring ketchup?
Camie: Weird huh? Saw it on Food Network and had to try it.
Redgeek: You know, Deku figured it out. The heroes got you dead-to-rights.
Camie: Deku! Uh, who’s that? Sound’s cool.
Redgeek: Well, looks like I won’t get anything out of you. Before we go, do you have anything you want to say to all your fans?
Camie: Yes, I didn’t steal my hero costume from Black Widow. She stole it from me!
Redgeek: Okay then, this is Redgeek signing off. Goodnight.
*STAB!*
Redgeek: The hell!
Camie: Oh, sorry! I was trying to kill a fly on your shoulder. It landed in front of your heart. I’ll get it this time!
Redgeek: Nooooo!
*STAB!*
Camie: There. Got it…

Camie & Tokoyami, Mystery Duo (My Hero Academia)

toga00

Camie, are you Toga?
So, Camie are you Toga?
Are you Toga, Camie?
You’ve been stabbed by
You’ve been stabbed by
A smooth criminal

Two big questions about chapter 163: Is that the real Camie? And where is Tokoyami? Let’s start with Camie.

I think that’s Toga in disguise. Why? Because her reintroduction is too normal. Up until this chapter most readers would put money on Camie being dead and here she casually reappears ready to retake the Hero Provisional Exam. Sorry, I mean TAKE the exam. Toga impersonated her last time. I don’t think a hero candidate worth their sea salt would think someone else completing half an exam under your identity is fair. Also, if she escaped or was saved from Toga, the school would most likely know and ask her to retake the full exam. So, unless the real Camie is a scummy, that is Toga.

But, why is Toga still impersonating Camie, redgeek? I don’t know. Maybe she was asked to go to a hero school by Shigaraki. Sure, it could be her idea, but I don’t think so now. Back when she first messed with Deku I did, assuming crazy Toga was just being crazy. Now, I think the villains are planning something. We still don’t know how much time she has left in Deku’s form. Maybe…the villains are after All Might. Or, maybe it’s something bigger than that. These days I’m not underestimating Shigaraki. This dude got something planned.

But, what about the heroes? Deku figured out the link between Toga and Camie during the Overhaul arc. I know a lot happened, but no way our tactical, always thinking Deku somehow forgot about that. Yet, it wasn’t touched on at all after the fact. I think there’s some off-panel shenanigans going on. Deku told the authorities and they set a trap for Toga. Endeavor IS on assignment. The new number one is hunting for League members and is hoping Toga will lead him to the biggest fish, Shigaraki!

League of Absence (My Hero Academia)

Gigantomachia00

Over the past few chapters we’ve seen the League of Villains do some serious leveling up with Mr. Hype Baddie, Giantomachia, plus an unknown number of new recruits joining and acquiring Overhaul’s anti-quirk bullets and serum. Basically, Shigaraki has everything he needs for another A-level scheme, but like with most ingredients, he’ll need time to prepare. So, I hope you enjoyed seeing the league because barring minor check-ins, I don’t think we’ll be seeing much of them in the foreseeable future.

But we must have balance.
We touched on it a bit with Class A learning super moves, now is the time to see more of that and maybe some other improved skills while Team Facepalm gets ready for the next round to pain. With Provisional License: Part Deux, Bakugou and Todoroki will get their level-up along with Inasa Yoarashi.

But, we need more than that. I’m guessing that inter-school training Ms. Joke proposed will happen soon after, leveling up Class A even more. A maybe, just maybe, we’ll even get another small arc after that. An All Might origin flashback would be nice.

The fact is the League of Villains 3.0 is coming and right now they have the brains, brawn, and tools to cause mega damage. If Class A doesn’t step up, the villains will leave them in the dust. Or, considering Shigaraki, turn them into dust.

The Future Can Change. Maybe? [My Hero Academia]

Sir_Nighteye00

Well, Deku saved Eri and defeated Overhaul but Sir Nighteye’s predicted death came true. Nighteye theorized Deku was the focal point of the hope/will to succeed from everyone, allowing him to reject his awful future.

I don’t agree.
Well, I don’t WANT to agree. It’s a bit cheezy. The whole friendship=energy (power) trope is standard in shounen, but I want a more realistic answer. So, I’ll say yes, it was the power of friendship, BUT it wasn’t some best friend spirit bomb, it was Eri. Eri was the trigger, she saved the day. The moment Eri decided to fight for her freedom (thanks to Mirio’s encouragement) changed HER future. If that’s true, Deku was only a tool Eri used to change that future. Luckily, Deku benefited from her actions as a result.

What does this all mean?

Deku doesn’t have the power to change the future on his own.
For Toshinori to survive, it will take more than his protege. But, who is powerful enough to help Deku? No clue. Either Deku will have to become powerful enough to change fate or his allies will all have to band together to save the former number one hero. And we’re talking Eri’s uber quirk levels of power, yikes! All hands on board to survive that storm.

So, we have the ticking time clock of Toshinori’s approaching death, and a possible way to avoid it. How does it play out? If changing the future boils down to choices, could All Might choose to die? If his last feat of heroism is sacrificing his life, no one can stop it. And from a meta perspective, there isn’t much left for Toshinori to do. Telling Deku how he inherited One For All and his relationship with Nana Shimura, including her connection with Shigaraki, via flashback is pretty much all that’s left. And even most of that can be explained by Gran Torino.

Deku is getting a personal tragedy eventually. Toshinori, Inko Midoriya, Gran Torino, someone close to him will die. In my opinion, it’s gonna be Toshinori, but I won’t count Gran Torino out either. Hirokoshi loves Star Wars and if old man Gran T. is the Yoda of the series, Toshinori is the Obi-Wan Kenobi. Hmm… All I can say is a mentor surviving a shounen series to the end is rare. Two surviving? Not happening. Plus, we can’t forget Toshinori, the symbol of good, has to die for the Villain Alliance to truly change the world.

My money is on Toshinori willingly dying to protect Deku and/or the world. Shigarki will do the deed or be indirectly responsible, cementing Deku VS Shigariki’s rivalry equaling that of All Might VS All For One. Toshinori’s clock is indeed ticking down folks. And just like losing his powers, he’s going out like a hero.

Meet the Geek: Kohei Horikoshi [My Hero Academia]

Hirokoshi00

I’m been praising My Hero Academia for a long time. After what seems like forever, I’ve finally been granted a phone interview with it’s creator, Kohei Horikoshi.

Redgeek: Thank you for your time, Hirokoshi-sensei.

Hirokoshi: No, no. Thank you. Always happy to talk with my fans.

Redgeek: Let’s begin with Overhaul. Quite the powerful villain, any hints as to whether or not he’ll survive this arc. I have a little theory his days are numbered. Not saying Deku will kill him. I just think the world of My Hero Academia isn’t big enough for the likes of Shigaraki and Overhaul. Any comments?

Hirokoshi: Yes! Yes! Awesome.

Redgeek: Would you mind clarifying?

Hirokoshi: Kylo Ren, baby. No way is he’s killing momma Leia. I swear I’ll riot if he so much as look as her funny.

Redgeek: What?

Hirokoshi: This will not…go the way…you think! Hell yeah!

Redgeek: Are you watching the Star Wars trailer?

Hirokoshi: Huh? Oh, uh, yeah, but please continue. It’s only my eighty-sixth time. You were saying?

Redgeek: Will Shigiraki kill Overhaul?

Hirokoshi: Fuck yes! God, yes! Rahhhhh!!!!

Redgeek: Was that a yes to my question or—

Hirokoshi: Hot damn. You see that latest trailer. Luke Skywalker in the Millennium Falcon! Oh, oh….uhh! Tissue, tissue.

Redgeek: Woah! Hirokoshi-sensei, I think you’re a little too excited for Star Wars.

Hirokoshi: That’s like being too excited for Avengers four. Did you see that leaked trailer?

Redgeek: Sir, can we please get back on topic?

Hirokoshi: …Sorry. Okay, I’m calm. Back to the subject, I’ll probably name the next place after Kylo Ren, maybe Skywalker if I can get away with it. You think naming the third best hero school Skywalker or Ren is better?

Redgeek: You can always break up the words Sky and Walker, I’d go with that. Now about my theory—

Hirokoshi: Yeah, that’s perfect. Gotta draw it. Let’s talk later, bye. *click*

Redgeek: And there you have it. Overhaul will not be killed by Shigaraki, but Kylo Ren. Tune in next time for the another spoiler packed Meet the Geek.

Girls Can Fight Too! [My Hero Academia]

Nejire_Hadou

Please, Hirokoshi. I’m begging you. Please give us kick-ass female characters!

My Hero Academia is a manga taking place in a world of heroes and villains. Many ideas for the series is drawn from western comics, mainly Marvel and DC comics. But, at its core it’s a battle shounen series, so it makes sense the popular manga will have tropes related to this genre. Unfortunately, we may be getting a trope many fans do not want, the weak female character.
