Back to the Present? (My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Chapter 28)

knuckle00

Two things I want to talk about: Knuckleduster and the potential time skip.

Firstly, WHAT THE FUCK, KNUCKLEDUSTER? Really, dude? Did you just leave Koichi and Pop Step without saying goodbye? And, no. Leaving your dirty brass knuckles doesn’t count. That is some bull sized shit, buddy. I know you’re stressed right now with the whole almost dying when saving your possessed bee daughter from some mystery guy, but you never heard of Twitter? A text? A phone call? An Instagram pic holding up a piece of paper with “Goodbye” written in crayon covered in hearts? At least it looks like your daughter will be okay. Well, after she learns her mom died…

Secondly, we getting a time skip ya’ll! Knuckleduster’s arc is over. Koichi has become a true vigilante without Knuckledaddy, and Pop Step is more famous. Everything’s set for a time skip…but how far we talking?

Gentle Is Not A Villain (My Hero Academia 180)

hound00

Love? Not on our watch!

He’s selfish, but not a villain.

Gentle and La Brava’s reign of inconvenience is over. U.A. found them, but instead of putting up a fight they most likely couldn’t win (Gentle was already spent fighting Deku), they surrendered. What does that mean for the two? First things first, this won’t be the last time we see the duo. Horikoshi’s spent too much time and developed their characters too much to throw them away. Funny, I say that because I wanted more Gentle and La Brava backstory.

It’s never clear how Gentle became such a competent “villain”. He meticulously plans every situation, he’s mastered his quirk. Why can’t he be a hero? Was his screw-up trying to save the window washer too heinous? Do people need perfect records to become a hero? Clearly, Gentle has the talent to be a hero, what happened? Several things. The first:

Gentle’s hero school was shitty.

What’s La Brava’s Quirk? (My Hero Academia 177)

labrava01

But I’d settle for her phone number, hardy har har! Kidding. She’s…I think she’s an adult. Short women do exist, ya’ll. What did I want to talk about? Oh, yeah!

Will Deku win his fight against Gentle?

No. Well, I’m sure he’ll think of a way to keep or convince Gentle not to attack UA (possibly mentioning Eri). But, I’m talking about a throw down fight. Gentle seems like a character that’ll come back later in the series, so I don’t think he’s going to jail UNLESS it’s setting up him going to Tartarus. Deku doesn’t seem ready for Gentle. Brute force ain’t winning this fight.

Alright, see you! …hmm.

Hipster Hotline: My Hero Academia: Vigilantes

Koichi00

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes isn’t the greatest thing since Bluetooth headphones, but it gets the job done.

Vigilantes is a more slice-of-life version of My Hero Academia taking place before the beginning of the main series. We follow Koichi AKA The Crawler and his friends, Pop Step and Knuckleduster, as they battle evil, but mostly do other stuff too.

The manga’s pacing is slow and the action doesn’t exactly draw you in. If you’re expecting bad-ass fights galore, this is not your manga. What it does is expand on the MHA universe. Koichi became a vigilante as a release to from the pressures of the world. Pop Step is a masked idol illegally using her quirk. And, Knuckleduster is DC’s Wildcat, basically. He’s an older guy on a mission who takes Koichi under his wing (whether he wants to or not).

Gentle and La Brava, The Perfect Tragedy (MHA)

labrava00

La Brava and Gentle. Gentle and La Brava. My Hero Academia’s villainous power couple. This week’s chapter we saw the two’s detailed plan for infiltrating UA Academy. They look so happy together.

…Gentle’s gonna die, isn’t he?

First thing’s first, their plan will probably go in the crapper because they explained it and you NEVER explain your plan in detail first. RIP Plan. I’d say there’s a good chance our Dynamic Duo will run into Momo or some other student from UA at the tea shop. Well, I’m sure they’ll figure something out and make it to the academy, albeit with more setbacks than first thought.

There’s a bigger issue concerning Gentle and La Brava. Chances are one or both of them is getting captured at the end of the arc. I just don’t see him escaping the academy.  At this point, I’m unsure if Gentle himself planned an escape. Attacking a superhero school is basically villain suicide, Gentle must know that. So why?

My Hero Academia, The Darkest Timeline?

magneto00a

Kohei Hirokoshi, creator of My Hero Academia, loves superheroes. So, it’s no surprise he used the X-Men as a template for his superhero series. Swap mutant power with quirk, Prof. X’s school with UA. My Hero Academia is manga X-Men, big surprise, right? No? Okay, how about this:

My Hero Academia is a bad future.

Yep. We’re watching the events of a world gone to hell. Let’s start with what we know. Quirks first developed in MHA’s universe during our present. Quirk users were the minority and “normal” people hated and feared them. Sounds familiar, right?

Generations have passed since and it’s said the advent of quirks stunted technological advancement, which is why technology in that universe seems mostly like ours with the exception of robots and other things. But was it simply the world getting used to quirks? I don’t think so. Knowing human nature, I believe “normal” humans fought quirk users in the past. That’s right, My Hero Academia takes place in an X-Men world where Magneto won!

People discriminated against quirk users but over time they accepted them with open arms.

Yeah, right. Here’s a more realistic version:

Basic Bitch No More (MHA)

Eri01b

Congratulations, Eri! You’re officially no longer a basic bitch.

Eri01

One manga pet-peeve of mine is little girls wearing basic dresses. Like, totally basic. Pillowcase basic. It’s so lazy. Hey, mangaka? You can’t go to one clothing store website and research girls fashion?
What’s even worse are girls wearing pink frilly monstrosities littered with hearts. Every girl doesn’t have to dress like Card Captor Sakura. Are jeans too hard to draw? Eri’s new outfit is great. Not overly frilly or covered with hearts. It’s simple, not basic.  Certainly not…

Buy Eri a Nintendo Switch (My Hero Academia 170)

eri00

It’s the fastest way to make a child smile. Well, there’s family/friendly affection but in the age of technology its all about materialism. Yay?

Anyway, what I really want to discuss is what Aizawa said. “They” are trying to find a home for Eri. And I think we all know where this is going.
….No, not an orphanage.
…………..Nope. Not living with Aizawa, but getting warmer.
………………….What? The Thousand Sunny? You know what, I’ll just say it.

Eri’s moving into UA’s dorm.

Aoyama 2.0 Incoming? (My Hero Academia)

Aoyama00

Who is Yuga Aoyama?
A joke character? A stalker? A traitor? Let’s figure out what’s going on with Aoyama.

Don’t think it’s a debate whether or not Aoyama is narcissistic. The guy’s dorm room is full of mirrors and pictures of himself! Possibly praised all his life by family is my guess where his arrogance comes from. Now, imagine growing up littered with praise. Who knows? Maybe his dad’s a famous hero in France. Whatever the case, Aoyama knows he’s destined for great things and enrolls in UA. One of his classmates is a wimpy looking boy who can’t control his power, so pathetic, he was nearly expelled on the first day!

Now, imagine that wimpy, bad quirk kid slowly, but surely, becoming the person you want to be: strong, smart, brave, and has friends. The boy caught the attention of All Might, performed great in the UA Festival—even went head first into danger to save a friend kidnapped by villains. The boy has what it takes to be a hero, and Aoyama knows it.

Why is Aoyama stalking Deku? Because he wants to be like him. He wants to become someone to be admired, someone with friends.

Endeavor’s Way (My Hero Academia)

Endeavor01

How does one become the symbol of peace?

All Might pulled it off, but Endeavor isn’t All Might—and he knows it. Toshinori himself told the new number one hero he had to find his own way. So, what will Endeavor do?

Well, we know what he won’t do, be the smiling super-friendly hero All Might was. Endeavor is all about being the guy who gets stuff done, the strongest. With that in mind, I say there are three routes Endeavor can go down to restore a peaceful minded society:
