The Final Villain Will Be… [My Hero Vigilantes]

Let’s talk about the Villian Factory, shall we?

no601
Hm. Now where have I heard that line before?

You know them, right? The people turning civilians into Trigger test subjects. Kidnapping and doing more experiments on people. And, let’s not forget the flying bomb creatures and No. 6 whose implied to be some kind of non-human creature who only looks human. Can we all agree the Villian Factory is All For One’s criminal organization? Yeah? Cool.

I should say a part of AFO’s operation. I doubt we’ll see much of the Evil Overlord in My Hero Vigilantes. At least, we won’t see him fighting. A flashback of him stealing O’Clock’s quirk is a given and maybe a cameo or two talking with Doctor Ujiko but that’s all we’ll get and I’m fine with it. We don’t need AFO stomping our main cast into dust and stomped they’d be if he ever fought them. Look, Koichi is awesome but he ain’t nowhere near AFO’s level so pluck that fantasy fight out your minds right now.

Instead, let’s talk about the Villain Factory’s endgame in My Hero Vigilantes. How do we figure it out? Easy, we make a guess based on who controls the Villain Factory and the state of the organization in the main series. All For One controls it all, but I wanna focus on Doctor Ujiko because he’s no doubt the guy overseeing the Villain Factory.

Under New Management [My Hero Academia 239]

Welcome to what is probably the end of the Villains Arc. It was a wild ride. We laughed, we cried, we wondered how Re-Destro’s pants stretched to fit Hulk Re-Destro. Barring maybe one last wrap-up chapter, or at least a portion of next week’s chapter dedicated to the public’s reaction to the carnage that befell Deika City, let’s not only talk about this chapter but what it all means for the series as a whole.

Here’s a hint: Team Deku’s screwed.

239toughday
Re-Destro’s not a morning person.

Shigaraki won. And, I’m not just talking about his fight against Re-Destro. Seeing Shiggy as the embodiment of Destro’s ideals, Re-Destro admits defeat then turns the Meta Liberation Army over to him. Well, that’s a shocker. But, thinking about it makes sense. Look, the MLA aren’t exactly good people. They want every quirk user to be able to use their powers without restriction. That’s absolutely insane. The fact that Re-Destro looked upon all the destruction Shigaraki caused and admired him is proof of that. These are two crazy leaders who can potentially share a common goal. Let’s face it, Y’all. The MLA was walking down the path of destruction since OG Destro’s days. The only difference between them and the League is what happens after society is destroyed. If Shigaraki has no problem allowing what’s left of Japan to use their quirks feely then everyone wins. And why wouldn’t he? I doubt he cares what happens to the world after he wreaks it. It’s a total win-win situation for both organizations!

Addressing Spinner’s narrative, it looks like that whole “League is doomed” talk from the beginning of the arc was him thinking up to this point before he saw Shigaraki pull off the win. Just wanted to point that out for anyone who remembered.

Welcome to Deika City, Population: Not Anymore [My Hero Academia 238]

Pop in those earbuds and hit play, because it’s time for another 100% stressful chapter of My Hero Academia.

238Shiggy
This is how you werk the runway.

Picking up where we last left off after Shigaraki remembered everything and made the mental limits on his power as thing of the past, he continues his face-off against Re-Destro. Ladies and Gentlemen, meet the full-powered Tomura Shigaraki!

But, Re-Destro’s having none of it and attacks. Now, keep in mind this is a Shigaraki bordering on the edge of collapse. He’s be fighting almost non-stop against Gigantomachia for weeks and has spent today fighting Meta Liberation Army goons and their powerful boss. Everything we’re seeing now is only a taste of what’s to come from Shigaraki in the future after a good night’s rest and a new pair of socks.

Anyway, Re-Destro tries hitting Shigaraki with a 100% Stress Bomb. It destroys everything around the two, missing Shigaraki because he destroyed it before it could affect him. Yikes! That basically confirms dear ole Shiggy can destroy energy attacks, meaning Deku’s Black Whip will be useless if he tries attacking the LoV leader directly with it. So, um, where are the Deku’s Overpowered complainers now?

I Didn’t Choose the Evil Life, The Evil Life Chose Me [My Hero Academia 237]

The point of no return has been hit. There was a chance Tenko could’ve gone down the right path. A chance he could recover from his trauma in a healthy way and go on to be a productive member of society.

But, not on All For One’s watch.

237mutantAFO
Could All For One also have had white hair and red eyes? Maybe he was one of the first mutant quirk users.

People can be crappy. Yep, as mentioned by Shigaraki before, no one tried to help him in his time of need. Like seriously, there’s an f-ed up looking kid walking around by himself and no one called the police? Damn. Well, that was society’s last chance to prevent Tomura Shigarki’s birth, and they failed.

All For One makes it very clear how he wants Tenko to think. That’s what’s so insidious about him. It’s complete manipulation on his part in turning Tenko into Shigaraki, but it’s in a similar way to a parent teaching their child. But, instead of teaching your kid to be a good person, you tell him “Nah, screw the rules. Do whatever you want.” And, what happens when you tell a child who holds onto anger and sadness and murderous intent like it was a new toy to do what they want? Dead street punks. Specifically, the kind who earlier beats up Tenko. Why do I have the feeling All For One was watching Tenko kill his family the same way he watched him kill those punks? What a jerk!

Diary of an Itchy Kid [My Hero Academia 236]

Well, that was an adventure. Lemme put on some calming music before we get into it.

236nogore
I’m not showing any gore. So, let’s all pretend she’s looking at a broken Nintendo Switch and not her dead dog.

Pent up anger. Tenko Shimura felt his family was against him. Felt his father was a monster for punishing him for wanting to be a hero. Felt the rest of his family stood by and let it happen. This was the result, an angry child lashing out with a newly emerged quirk. A quirk that kills.

We knew Tenko would kill his family but I had my doubts. Namely, how did every family member keep their hands if they were turned to dust? Well, the answer to that was pretty simple. Decay, when it first manifested, broke things down into chunks, rather than disintegrating them like what we see from the current Shigaraki. Guess someone’s been training their quirk over the years.

We also see Tenko using a long-range attack and decaying his house (the one his father had built), confirming he’s been capable of doing those attacks from the beginning. And, while attacking, Tenko’s hair is turning white and I assume his eyes are turning red, just like Eri. If All For One had nothing to do with Tenko’s quirk then that confirms someone with a mutant quirk gets those physical attributes only when their quirk first activates.

Good Doggy! Now, Play Dead! [My Hero Academia 235]

All For One is the pettiest mofo since my jerk 6th Grade teacher gave me a 50-page book report assignment simply because I told him his wife left him because he smelled like peanut butter.

235upgrade
Shigaraki can now destroy energy attacks! Eat your veggies kids and you too can be a superpowered badass.

Welcome Shigaraki’s backstory! While I guessed correctly, along with half the internet, young Tenko wanted to be a hero, I wasn’t expecting to see All For One so early in the flashback. Looks like he and Tenko met prior to the alley after his family died. So what happened? What did All For One do? Honestly, I don’t know. Considering Tenko has been itchy for a while now, I doubt All For One implanted the quirk at that time. Now, it’s possible if that wasn’t the first time the two met All For One could’ve switched out Tenko’s original quirk for Decay, but we’ll have to wait and see. It could be just as likely All For One befriended the boy to lead him down a dark path slowly over the years, with or without his family. The guy’s immortal, he’s got the time.

Kotaro’s an asshole. Again, as predicted, thanks to Nana’s actions, he has a mad hate-on for heroes. So much so, you can’t even mention them in the house! Tenko’s mom, sister, and maternal grandparents feel sorry for him, but no one truly sticks up for Tenko when the crap hits the fan. They just console him and move on. As we learn, that itself is a problem. They console but even then don’t go against Kotaro’s wishes and tell Tenko, yes, you can be a hero. That is what he needed most of all.

Later, Tenko gets busted for looking at Nana’s picture hidden in Kotaro’s study, and Hana throws him under the bus saying it was his idea. Traitor! I can’t blame her too much, their father is such a rageaholic when comes to heroes, she would’ve gotten five across the eyes too.

Shigaraki Remembers His Youtube Password [My Hero Academia 234]

Woo doggy! What a chapter! Originally, I was going to start by talking about Re-Destro but screw it. I’m diving into my Shigaraki talk.

234myex
What my boss said at my last performance review.

There’s no doubt now, All For One gave Shigaraki his families’ hands as a constant reminder of his pain, all to corrupt his feelings and turn him into a tool of destruction. What a dick! It also explains why Shigaraki regained his memories as he lost his hands. Make me wonder if he’ll gather the hands up or leave them moving forward. Maybe he’ll only keep his father’s hand for his face. That should be enough.

We’re introduced to Shigaraki AKA Young Tenko’s mother and maternal grandparents. Shigaraki mentions them not telling him something he needed to hear as a child. Something to comfort him after his father told him (if my theory is correct) he couldn’t be a hero. Remind you of a certain One For All user?

234shiggyneeded234dekuneeded234dekuhero

Tenko and Hana wanting to be heroes is all but confirmed in my book.

But, what about dear old Papa Shimura? We haven’t seen him yet. Well, that’s because Shigaraki’s daddy issues is the meat and potatoes of the flashback. Horikoshi’s saving that magnum opus for last. Shiggy’s hate for his dad is also why I think he’ll only need his father’s hand to fuel his hate moving forward.

What’s Up with Yagi Toshinori? [My Hero Academia]

My Hero Academia v11 (2018) (Digital) (LuCaZ)

And, no. I’m not talking about my theory that he and Detective Tsukauchi are romantically involved. I’m talking about All Might’s origins, or more specifically, Yagi Toshinori’s origins as well as how he first met Nana Shimura.

Let’s be honest here, even with All Might’s appearances in My Hero Vigilantes, we know very little about his family life. Wait. Does Yagi have a family? They’ve never been referenced, hinted at, or acknowledged in any way. No phone calls or secret visits or confidential reveals to Deku, nothing. So, what’s up with that?

Well, we know Yagi was shown to have a high sense of morality in a flashback where he’s presumed to be middle school aged. That same flackblack may also be when Nana decided to make him her successor. But, that still doesn’t explain how Nana met Yagi in the first place. So, here’s my theory:

Spinner Saved Me 15% Off My Car Insurance [My Hero Academia 233]

Hm? Could it be…

Anyway, about the chapter, we learn Hanabata AKA Trumpet, indeed has a quirk that power’s up his allies through the sound of his voice. The louder it is, the more powerful they become. But, from what Trumpet implied in the chapter, this power-up takes a toll on those affected. Which explains why he didn’t bust out the megaphone mask in the beginning.

Spinner! He has an animal quirk called Gecko, which allows him to cling to walls. Oh, sweet, Horikoshi. You can’t fool me. If wall-crawling was all Spinner could do, it wouldn’t be called Gecko. Like, Froppy’s Frog quirk, I believe Spinner will unlock more lizard abilities in the future. All he has to do is train his quirk. Wouldn’t be surprised if he discovers a new ability in this very arc! Oh, yeah, it’s definitely coming.

The Incredible Re-Destro [My Hero Academia 232]

Finally! We have some idea what Re-Destro’s quirk can do. And, boy, it’s a whopper of a power.

232mariokart
Whether its the Meta Liberation Army or Mario Kart, the League plays for keeps.

While we don’t get the name of Re-Destro’s quirk, let’s review what he did and make a hypothesis, shall we? In the chapter we saw Re-Destro move incredibly fast, take out a Twice clone with one finger, destroy a group of League clones with one hit from an enlarged arm, fight Clone Shigaraki with said mega arm, and survive a fall from a disintegrating tower. Phew! That’s a lot!

Now, what does everything Re-Destro’s done this chapter have in common? Answer: All his attacking limbs were covered by his birthmark. Re-Destro’s birthmark is the key to his powers, a given, yes. But, what does it exactly do? I’d say it manipulates his body on a molecular level. Anything Re-Destro wants his body to do he can do it as long as the birthmark is covering that body part. Strength? Yes. Enlargement? Yep. Speed? Sure. Elasticity? Uh-huh. Defense? Of course. Re-Destro can make his body do whatever he wants, making the Detnerat CEO an easy contender for top 10 quirks seen in the series so far. Top 5 even, depending on what his weakness is.

So, how is Shigaraki gonna beat that? Well, fortunately, the real Shiggy has an idea of what Detnerat can do, so that helps. Other than that, I got no clue. Now, would be a good time for Twice to whip up some more Shigaraki clones after he pulls Giran out the rubble, assuming there’s any Tower Twice Clones left.
