You Got a Bad Platitude [My Hero Academia 315]

What doesn’t kill you strengthens you. Right, Lady Nagant?

I’m positive you’ll survive, but we all die someday. Today just isn’t your day. So much for Lady D teaming up with the good guys. Being blown the eff up tends to put such plans on hiatus. Good catch, by the way, Hawks. I’m sure you and Lady Nagant have lots to talk about, including how horrible the Hero Safety Commission truly is.

Everything happens for a reason. So, how did All For One blow up Lady Nagant? Did the Overlord of Evil Respirator Masks give Nagant a third quirk? Or did he simply use a quirk on her? Something like Curious’ Land Mine quirk but stronger? If so, how did he know when to activate it? Is AFO somehow hacking into One For All’s dream space? Getting little bits of information here and there to conclude Lady Nagant failed and thus earned an explosion sandwich? Guess we’ll find out, eventually.

Lady Nagant changed his clothes. Sounds hot until you realize she made him wear all polyester.

Don’t ust-Tray e-thay ero-Hay afety-Say ommission-Cay [My Hero Academia 314]

The CIA of crime fighting. The MI6 of a synthetic hero society. Welcome to the world of the Hero Safety Commission. Now play nice, or else.

We knew it was coming. I’ve mentioned before the Hero Safety Commission probably operated in part as an intelligence agency. Neutralizing threats to hero society in secret, by any means necessary. What I didn’t know is how extreme they are. It’s not just major imminent threats but minor threats get rooted out to keep society blemish free. Even talks of crimes against society are up for erasure. That’s cold.

Sting operations. Court order raids. Nope. Just death. Even the media is their puppet. Do you know how much power it takes keeping missing corrupt heroes and alleged criminals off the radar? To kill stories TV news stations or newspapers if they caught wind of a story? Here a hint: A freaking lot!

Don’t you know it’s not polite to point, Deku?

Deku’s Bizarre Adventure [My Hero Academia 313]

A pretty straight forward chapter this week.

All For One also gave Lady Nagant a Nordstrom gift card. Who says you can’t look good violently kidnapping a child?

Let’s start with the biggest revelation: The Third’s Fajin quirk. It wasn’t explained nor used much but from what I can gather it’s some sort of energy emission quirk. Dark energy carrying Deku’s objects, creating decoys so Mr. Ninth could take Lady Nagant by surprise. Nice. Honestly, I’m not sure what else Deku can do with the quirk. Shoot it out as a long range attack? I’m really blanking on what Deku can do with this against Shigaraki. But, no matter. I’m sure Fajin at full power is much more useful than what we’ve seen here. Fajin the Jojo Stand incoming?

Lady and the Scamp [My Hero Academia 312]

Hey there, Mystery Lady. Let’s see here… Your profile says you hate our little hero society. You know what? I don’t believe you.

That’s right fellow My Hero-manics. I don’t think Lady Nagant truly wants the downfall of hero society. Did you notice All For One never mentioning her working for the Hero Safety Commission? I don’t think many people know that part. In fact, I don’t believe AFO even knows the circumstances behind her killing another hero. Well, neither do I, but that won’t stop me from speculating.

She’s not deep undercover because Hawks is tasked with capturing her so I can assume she really killed a hero. The question is why? Assuming it wasn’t an accident (She’s known as the best sharpshooter so that’s probably not the case.) Lady Nagant must’ve felt she had no other choice but killing that person. Maybe that hero wasn’t acting very heroic at the time.

I’ll go further. Maybe that hero also worked directly for the Hero Safety Commission and tasked to do something so unethical Ms. Nagant had no other option but to stop them. That seems to be the HSC’s modus operandi or Mo if you’re not a hipster. They’re not only in charge of heroes being responsive but also secretly in charge of a select number of heroes being preventive, by any means necessary.

It’s called twerking, Lady Nagant. Guess you’ve been locked up for a while, huh?

Simping For Snipers [My Hero Academia 311]

Looks like Deku may have found a lead in finding Shigaraki, while MHA artists have definitely found free real estate.

Ms. Tartarus is back! And she’s still got Overhaul with her. Wha???? What in the name of Mineta’s search history is going on here? Well, we know Ms. Tartarus has no initial connection to Deku, so either she was ordered or hired to find him. Maybe both. I think Overhaul is the key here. Shigaraki and Mr. Compress destroyed his arms so I doubt he’s working with the Paranormal Liberation Front. And we know he wants to heal his mafia boss so… What if he wants to make some sort of deal with Deku? Maybe Overhaul tells him everything he knows about the main baddies’ current location and/or what they’re up to and he convinces Endeavor to let him heal Eri’s grandpa.

Whatever it is, I’m pretty sure Overhaul wants Deku to do something for him. Yeah, this could all just be some petty revenge plot by Overhaul but I think he’s smarter than that. Trying to kill Deku won’t get him very far overall so it has to be more than that. Plus, if he hired Ms. Tartarus for payback, she would’ve shot Deku in the head and been done with it.

The Sniper was originally sent to Tartarus for her lack of tact. I mean, come on. Overhaul’s sitting right there.

We have confirmation Detnerat is making weapons for convicts. I’m glad that plot point’s finally paying off. And are they building weapons at the same location Skeptic is manipulating public opinion? Yeah, I said it. I think Skeptic’s fanning the flames of hero mistrust online, one way by spreading the knowledge Shigaraki is after someone specifically. Hm? But if that’s true, then why doesn’t Skeptic just flat out say it’s Deku? Maybe I’m giving the guy too much credit and the public is just looking for heroes to blame instead of the villains who caused this mess.

Republican Deku [My Hero Academia 310]

All Quirks Matter, right Deku? Those guys were clearly acting prejudice against that woman, and you didn’t even call them out on it. What? Was it her fault being out during a stormy night? Forget the umbrella and whoop their @ss!

I know. I know. I’m being a tad harsh on Midoriya, aren’t I? He’s probably not used to seeing such awful behavior based on just how someone looks. Guess I’m being overprotective because I really love that lady’s design. And she’s tall too! I wonder if she’s single? …What? Oh, you want me to finish talking about the rest of the chapter? *SCOFF* Fine.

No, he’s not Bakugo. He was never Bakugo. And he never will be Bakugo. Get that Time Travel Theory gunk outta here.

Level Grinding For the Final Boss [My Hero Academia 309]

Muscular’s down for the count. Nice work, Deku. Now only several thousand to go.

With the immediate crisis over, it’s time to backtrack and learn exactly how Deku got into this situation. Not surprisingly, it’s part of a larger plan to track down the League of Villains. It’s not the best plan ever, but it’s better than Deku hanging out at U.A. around a bunch of displaced civilians who’ll get caught in the evitable battle.

Plus, Deku’s getting stronger while constantly in the field and gaining experience. No textbooks, no classes, no studying. Just pure unalliterated level grinding. Reminds me of how The Crawler from My Hero Vigilantes became proficient at using his quirk. Oh, Deku. I had no idea you gained another quirk: Copycat.

By day, they hunt the League. By night, they’re a Backstreet Boys tribute band.

Mid-gauntlet compression support items. Deku is using them to keep from breaking his limbs. All Might got them from America. Hmm… Could Melissa Shield from the first My Hero movie have made them? And, if so, does that mean the movies are 100% canon? But in that case, why did Deku get mid-gauntlets instead of the full version in the movie? Maybe Melissa only had the one pair from the movie? Hmm… for now I’ll just assume it was Melissa Shield who made the mid-gauntlets. Whether this is a new manga Melissa or the same one from the movies remains to be seen.

Stop! In The Name of Haki [One Piece 1010]

Ah! So that’s what Gol D. Roger and White B. Eard were doing.

The two legendary pirate captains were infusing their weapons with Supreme King Haki! Nice callback, Oda. And now, Monkey D. Luffy knows how to do it. But Luffy attacks with his body, not with swords or anything like that.

Enter Zoro. Turns out he’s got a little of the Supreme Pizza Haki too. And, look! He performed an Asura attack. We haven’t seen that in 40 years! Oh, yes, I remember humming along to Kool & The Gang’s Celebration as I read Chapter 417 so long ago. And right after, I watched Little House on the Prairie while eating Better Cheddars. But I may be wrong.

And don’t forget to use #supremehaki, #rubberyonko, & #prayforkaido

Anyway, that’s two members of the Straw Hat Pirates who can use Supreme King Tutankhamen Haki. Will we get a third or fourth? Sanji? Jinbe? I hope so. All the Straw Hats don’t need to learn it, but it’d be nice if the strongest 3 or 4 do.

Thank You For Smoking [My Hero Academia 308]

Deku, my boy! What’s this? Don’t you know only a fool thinks smoking is cool? Oh, sorry. I thought you had a cigarette. Here’s your Cool Card back.

Smokescreen. Yes, my fellow My Hero fanatics, Izuku Midoriya has unlocked another Past User quirk. It’s a very complex superpower, but I’ll try to explain it in the most simplistic way I possibly can: Deku makes smoke.

Another simple, yet effective tool in Deku’s growing arsenal. This chapter has confirmed what I’ve been saying for a while now. The Previous One For All Users’ quirks are to be thought of as tools, not overpowered super moves. They work with the prime OFA quirk, not separate from it.

It’s either Deku or Ace Bunny from Loonatics Unleashed. …Yeah, I made a Loonatics reference in 202X. Don’t judge me!

My Ketsubutsu Academia [My Hero Academia 307]

Heroes being heroes. No U.A. students anywhere to be seen. Yes, my friends, the world is now a scarier place with people like Jailbreaker roaming about. Fortunately, there’s someone who may do something about him.

No, I’m not talking about Ketsubutsu Academy’s Yo Shindo AKA Grand or Tatami Nakagame AKA Turtle Neck. They were useless in this chapter. Sure, it’s great seeing them again. And by their character descriptions we know they’re 3rd years, meaning U.A.’s Class 1-A is officially in their 2nd year at the school. Nice. Things have changed and Horikoshi seems to be slowly showing us just how much is different at our favorite hero school…by not showing anything at all.

So we meet again, Justin Briner!

But, hey, it’s Jailbreaker, kids! Or should I call him, Muscular? He’s just chillin’ and killin’ like we all figured he would be doing. It’s gonna take a powerful hero to take that monster down. Enter Deku.
