Flashback? More Like FASTback! Am I Right? Ah? Ahh? [One Piece 962]

♪Who’s the leader of the club that’s made for you and me? K-O-Z-U-K-I  O-D-E-N-N.♪

…Eh? Close enough.

962waronfatgirls
Oda’s one-man war on big girls continues.

This chapter reveals how Kozuki Oden met up with most of his samurai. Holy crap, Oda’s moving 90 KPH through this flashback! I still don’t care about them. There’s no time to care! Why? Because we have to see Oden’s epic fight against Ashura Doji in Kuri—and it got skipped. Whatever, Oda.

But, hey! Oden turned all the criminals in Kuri into his followers and fixed up the area! How? You see he… Damn it, Oda! You skipped that too?! Is this a flashback or a Netflix intro?

What? No Dessert? [My Hero Academia 249]

Ring the Japanese equivalent of a triangle bell, cause it’s dinnertime!

MHA_249_003
They’re either training really hard or forgot to take a shower.

Enji’s been dreaming of his family together at the dinner table, but he’s never in them. He wants to be a better father but how? Well, I can tell you how to be a better husband right now:  Stop calling your wife “The Wife” when thinking about her. Was that weird to anyone else? He mentioned his kids by name but not Rei. Hm, maybe that means something.

Anyway, Endeavor brings Shoto, Deku, and Bakugo home for dinner as Fuyumi suggested last chapter. Natsu is there too so it doesn’t take long for things to get awkward when Natsu mentions Enji not approving of his cooking because it was too rich for his precious Shoto to eat. Enji doesn’t even remember that and that’s enough to send Natsu walking out the room. With dinner a bust, Deku learns Bakugo knew about Crap Dad Enji since overhearing his and Shoto’s conversation back in the U.A. Festival Arc. Deku and Bakugo overhear Fuyumi talking to Shoto about their dad which was nice to see. Not just because I love watching those two siblings interact, but I love Fuyumi admitting she’s upset at Endeavor too but is trying to use his change of heart as a spark to bring the family closer together. She’s having a hard time, y’all but at least she’s trying to do something about it! More on that later.

Shota Aizawa: Vigilante With Benefits [My Hero Vigilantes 65]

All this time Aizawa wasn’t a hero.

Okay, yeah, he’s a hero, but I’d also consider him a lawful vigilante. Or, he was until the end of this chapter. I only now realize how fitting it was having him in My Hero Vigilantes.

MHA_V_65_003
Glad he’s less of a jerk now. Guess Mineta’s once again the worst U.A. student in history.

We catch up with Aizawa and Yamada one year after Shirakumo’s death. While Yamada seems to be back to his normal self (at least on the outside), Aizawa is different, more like the sleepy Aizawa we see in the main series. It’s not because he’s gotten lazy. No, quite the opposite! He’s in ultra training mode, perfecting his fighting skills as best he can. And, all that training’s made him a tired guy.

It’s also implied Aizawa is more distant than ever, not even entertaining the idea of hanging out with his classmates. You can tell Yamada is the one holding on to their friendship, not because Aizawa’s pushing him away, but he’s just so focused on training he has little time for anything else. Guilt. Aizawa’s holding a lot of guilt over Shirakumo’s death. One of his best friends was killed by a villain and he’s doing everything he can to make sure no one else goes through what he has.

Although U.A. offers a student like Aizawa many options in how to become a professional hero, Aizawa just wants to start his agency immediately and start whopping criminal butt. No sidekicking. No Teams. Just him specializing in anti-villain combat. Like I said earlier, Aizawa became the closest thing to a vigilante without breaking the law.

Maybe It’s The Legs [One Piece 961]

Is that why everyone in Wano’s gaga for Oden? I’ll admit they are pretty hot.

961legs
Hide Your Daughters!! Hide Your Wives!!!

Kozuki Oden. I still can’t tell if he’s a joke character or not. Is it a Japanese thing? Is it a male stereotype thing? I don’t want to harp on it but Oda tends to lean on gender stereotypes more often than not. Women are super skinny, super sexy, and all about love. Yet, we have Nami and Robin who fill the first two requirements but not the third. Then we have men who are super buff and super tough like Kaido or Zoro, but we have Luffy who’s more on the lean side. And Usopp was a skinny dude before the time skip. What I’m trying to say is what the heck is up with Oden?

I can’t take him seriously. Everyone in the chapter is harping on how manly he is and women are fawning over his words and body. But, after seeing all the craziness in One Piece, the wacky devil fruit powers, the insane feats of strength delivered by the Straw Hat crew and their allies and enemies, Oden isn’t all that special. Yeah, he’s really strong but his I don’t care personality isn’t anything to write home about. Maybe it is a cultural thing. Or, maybe Oda is rushing through the arc. Or, both.

Ouji Harima Was A Previous One For All User? [My Hero Academia]

image00103

This is a quickie, y’all. For those that don’t know, the second character book came out in Japan somewhat recently. It contains general info and details not yet mentioned in the main series about a multitude of characters. One of which I learned is a little tidbit on Ouji Harima. It’s not much but a fan translation says:

It notes Harima was a thief who dressed in a peculiar costume. Says he mainly targeted the rich and gave the money he stole to the poor. Notes that although his actions were crimes, he was supported by some people.

That got my theory juices flowing. Remember this:

ouji00

Yeah. See those two hidden One For All users? I think one of them is Ouji Harima.

I know. I know. There’s not much to go on, but unless Harima has an immortality quirk, I think this is the best way to bring him into the series. It would also make sense for Horikoshi to hide his design. Although, if I’m right, what does that mean for the other shadow person? What’s so special about them? Hmmmm. Well, I got nothing concerning that. But, yeah. Just throwing it out there. Bye-bye!

Basic Bros [My Hero Academia 248]

Endeavor’s all about learning the fundamentals. Yeah, he makes a good point.

MHA_248_001
Hm. Looks like Uraraka upgraded her costume. I wonder if she can maneuver in the air now?

On the job training. That’s what this chapter is all about. Deku, Bakugo, and Todoroki are following Endeavor around, trying to out hero him, but Mr. Number One got everything handled. He tells Bakugo and Shoto to train to unleash their max power for a moment or focusing it. Deku gets orders to drop Black Whip training right now and put all his experience points into mastering Air Force subconsciously. Then, he can work on Black Whip. One thing at a time, y’all. You gotta take problems one step at a time.

Captain Hammer [One Piece 960]

Oda sure spent a long time building up Kozuki Oden. It wasn’t worth it.

248capthammer
So the rumors are true. The Dr. Horrible universe takes place in Wano.

What the hell is Oden? Seriously. I can’t tell if he’s a joke character or not. That exposition dump at the beginning of the chapter sure didn’t help. Why is a vessel of Kozuki Sukiyaki, he’s Oden’s daddy, getting a report on his own son’s life? Most of the stuff mentioned seems to be public knowledge. Nope. Didn’t like that at all. It was a lazy way to convey information to the audience. Maybe Oda’s trying to rush to the good part by doing that, but whether or not that’s true, it really annoyed me.

I not even gonna list all the stuff Oden’s done. Basically, he’s an uber strong badass whose also well-meaning but no one understands him. Translation: He’s an asshole but we’re supposed to like him. And, what’s with the kidnapping of women to put in a harem resulting in a war where people died? What the what? Of course, Oda added a line saying the women were free to go at any time, trying to smooth over that rocky road. It’s…it’s like Oda poured everything he thinks a man should be into this character in an attempt to make the ultimate badass but instead creating a Japanese Gaston.

Good News & Bad News [My Hero Vigilantes 64]

The good news is Aizawa took down that giant villain!

64ballsinmouth
Defeated by balls in the mouth. I can relate.

I seriously thought he was no match for Garvey but I was completely wrong. It was a hard fight, but using his wits and quirk, Shota pulled out an impossible win by keeping Garvey’s focus set on him and knocking his attacking balls in the air and away from civilians.

Yep. Everything worked out fine in the end. What a great chapter!

What’s the bad news, you say? Why do you wanna know that?! Let’s just end it here, okay? Come on. Please? Ugh, fine! Here’s the bad news:

I Wanna Really, Really, Really Wanna Zigazig Ah [My Hero Academia 247]

247endeavorface
♫If you wanna be my intern, you gotta get with my friends
(Gotta get with my friends)
Make it last forever, internships never ends
If you wanna be my intern, you have got to give
Training’s not too easy, but that’s the way it is♫

Fuyumi. What’s going on with her? I thought last chapter she was praying for Toya or something. That’s fine. But, here she is again. Something’s happening, y’all. I don’t know what but I’m more interested in that than what happened this chapter.

Instead of a time skip, we get Endeavor requesting more info on Deku and Bakugo in order to better train them. Deku is pretty forthcoming, mentioning his desire to get stronger without hurting himself and mastering Black Whip. Bakugo is more interested in learning what he can’t do. Which is arrogant, but good that he realizes there might be areas he’s lacking in terms of fighting. What I hope happens is Endeavor showing Bakugo what it means to be a professional. A hero who can talk to people without being a jerk and still command respect. There’s more to being a hero than being in the field and I hope Bakugo picks up on that fact interning with Mr. #1.

Where the Frick is Cat Viper? [One Piece 959]

Seems like we got an update on everyone except him this chapter. He can’t be the traitor, right? That’d be too deep for One Piece. The traitor has to be someone we don’t give a crap about or a female because, according to Oda, women are backstabbers who all have tragic backstories so they can be forgiven. Woah! Where did that Oda rant come from? I need to start meditating again.

959beetleborgs
Whatever, Luffy. The only you’re cutting is the cheese.

We turn the clock two days back and work our way up to the present this chapter, in the process learning more how Kin’emon’s plan went to shit. It was traitor, basically. Whoever that person is tipped off Orochi who blew up all the bridges leading to Itachi Port. A pretty smart move. The guy’s paranoid but he ain’t no idiot. That means the weapons and fighters have no way of reaching the port in time. Did I also mention Orochi blew up the ships Franky and Usopp were rebuilding and the freaking Thousand Sunny! Holy crap! Whoever snitched on the Alliance needs a bloody good spanking.
