Welcome Back, Anne! (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 12 #1)

buffy02

There’s a season twelve?

I sure as heck didn’t know about it, don’t frequent Buffy forums anymore. But, here we are. I was afraid Buffy’s story would end with season eleven. A bold season with good parts, but overall too short and lacking a wider focus on other characters including a big bad I could give two steaks about. And don’t get me started on there needing to be another Slayerverse book featuring Robin Wood and the former season seven potential slayers AND a Billy the Vampire Slayer comic. Maybe put Andrew in one of them, give the guy something to do.

Spoilers! Spoilers! Spoilers incoming!

Buffy Season 11 Thoughts [spoilers]

Buffy the Vampire Slayer 00

I don’t hear a lot of talk about Buffy’s comic book continuation of the TV series. A shame because it’s still great. Yeah, it has its rough patches like the TV show, but overall it’s just as entertaining. Guess the stigma of reading comics turns most people off. That, and I’m sure there’re fans who do even know the comic seasons exist. Well, now you know. Read it!

Sidenote: Season eight wasn’t bad, despite what others may say. It has flaws, including my most hated Big Bad in both the comics and television series, but it had a hell of a strong start. Not crazy about the last third but the other two-thirds more than makeup for it. Very ambitious. Ran too long, in my opinion, but, still a season worthy of Buffy. On to season eleven.

Hipster Hotline: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Buffy01

Let’s talk Buffy a bit.
Was only planning to talk about the Buffy season 11 comic (and I will in another article), but my Buffy senses started tingling. Won’t fully analyze the series (if you want that I recommend listening to Buffy podcasts like Dusted or the Hellmouth Podcast), just want to ramble about my love of it—without spoiling too much.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a TV show about a high school cheerleader chosen to become another in a long line of girls destined to fight the evils of the supernatural. Each gained some mystical power, trained, fought, and died. Another girl is chosen, the endless cycle continues. Can Buffy survive her fight against the darkness? Does she even want to? Does she have a choice? And will she ever tryout for cheerleading squad again? Tune in to find out. Seriously, you like good storytelling mixed with vampires and other monsters? Watch (and read) it.
