Lil Wayne x One Piece Song Opens Door For More Bizarre Collaborations [2D News]

Not since The Powerpuff Girls’ Ace temporary joined Gorillaz have we’ve seen such a massive musical combo involving an animated character.

While Lil Wayne’s recently released album, Tha Carter VI, garters attention from musical songwriting icon Lin-Manuel Miranda’s involvement as writer/producer, its been uncovered the elephant “singing” in one of the songs off the album, Peanuts 2 N Elephant, is in fact One Piece’s very own Zunesha.

Unnamed insiders have confirmed Lil Wayne suddenly reached out to Eiichro Oda himself requesting a One Piece character appear on an album track. Unfortunately, all of the voice actors for the Straw Hat Crew were unavailable at the time.

Not one to give up, Oda called Ben Hiura, voice of Zunesha—whose only plans for the next week was playing Star Wars Battlefront II—agreed and the most notable song on the infamous album was born.

Since its release, rumors have exploded in the anime community over the next One Piece character x music artists collaborations, including The Weeknd and whale Laboon going on tour together as well as Cardi B’s soon-to-be released single, “Outside”, featuring a hook provided by Miss Friday and Mr. 13.

Ankama Lied! Wakfu Season Five Kickstater Announced! [2D News]

–>Wakfu Season Five Kickstarter<–

Just like my ex, Ankama lied to me at my most vulnerable moment (sitting in front of the PC watching cartoons). I thought Wakfu Season Four was the final season to the epic (Epic, right? Kids still say that?) story of the Brotherhood of the Tofu.

Well… season four was so successful, Ankama decide to give the show one last go, for real this time!

Do you know how hard it is navigating that Kickstarter page while avoiding season four spoilers? Not that hard actually, but I sure as heck didn’t watch that season five trailer I posted!

At the time of writhing this post, the basic goal has been reached. But, the more money pledged, the more stuff we’ll get. Plus you can buy Wakfu merch like pins, plushies, and…vinyl records of the music. Uh, okay.

Personally, I just want to watch season five, which all backers will get access to on Ankama Launcher when season five premieres on French television in late 2027.

Oh! And in case you didn’t know, Wakfu season one and season two are officially available on YouTube!

Guess I’ll have to review season five when it comes out. Let’s see… How many episodes are planned for next season? Another thirteen isn’t—TWENTY-SIX episodes?! Are you kidding me?! I was planning on starting my modeling career that year.

Oh, well.

My Hero Academia Fans Excited Over My Hero Vigilantes Anime Announcement (Even Though They Have No Idea What That Is) [2D News]

If you’re an average My Hero Academia fan, you’re probably happy your favorite series is getting an anime original sequel.

Well, I got some new for you:

  1. My Hero Vigilantes is a prequel that begins roughly five years before the start of My Hero Academia. And…
  2. The story is based on the spin-off manga, My Hero Vigilantes written by Hideyuki Furuhashi and illustrated by Betten Court.

Is it good? Yes. Yes! YES! It’s good. But, if you’re thinking this is just another battle shonen series like My Hero Academia, then think again.

My Hero Vigilantes is a more street-level character-focused series. Sure, it’s got action, but it’s not the focus. Think of it more as a Shonen slice-of-life series and you’ll be fine. The trade-off with there being less action is more time to develop the main and supporting characters. MHV draws it’s audience in with fun and interesting characters while expanding on the lore of the My Hero world. It’s not MHA’s successor. It’s an addendum to that universe.

Look, don’t think about it too hard, alright? It’s not My Hero Academia but a separate story taking place in that same world. When April rolls around, sit back, relax and have a good time watching it.

Then regret making Bakugo the World’s Best Hero and not Koichi. How DARE you not vote for him! Number 34?! You bastards! I’ll get you for this! I swear! You’ll PAAAAYYYYYY!!!!!!!

Eiichiro Oda Visits Netflix’s One Piece Live Action Set [2D News]

Weeks ago, Eiichiro Oda—creator of the hit manga, One Piece—visited Netflix’s live-action One Piece set located in South Africa in order to “oversee production”, making sure the hit show doesn’t sway from Oda’s core vision.

And while that is indeed true, a source close to the cast and crew of the series, who wishes to remain anonymous, has come forth with the whole story.

According to this secret source, Eiichiro Oda was quite the fun guy while on set. Quote the source:

“It’s clear Mr. Oda hadn’t had a real vacation in years, so spent every available moment trying to get his party on. He really brought the energy up on set. It was wild!”

Maybe a little too wild, as the source when on to say throughout his visit, Oda reportedly took hundreds of goofy pictures of himself with the cast (for his own private collection to never be released), raced crewmembers in carts designed to drive around the showrunners and directors, and even took everyone white-water rafting on an off-day.

The snitching source also learned the very private Oda was talked into doing a “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo” as a background marine officer in a Lougetown scene. Unfortunately, the scene had to be reshot without him due to Oda’s inability to stand after injuring himself at the previous night’s cast and crew after-shoot party where a rap battle contest and twerking contest were both held.

Oda received first place in one of the contests, but the source refused to answer in which.

Hunter x Hunter Fans Demand Series Goes Back On Hiatus [2D News]

Hunter x Hunter, one of the most popular Shonen manga of all time, which debuted in 1998, has returned to weekly publication after yet another hiatus.

While the return has younger and casual fans excited and eager to enjoy the series again, many long-time fans are outraged at the supposing “good” news. Here are some comments posted on various social media sites from die-hard Hunter x Hunter fans:

“Now? Who has time to read when I’m busy picking up my kids from school and daycare?”

“Sure, I had plenty free time when the series started as a kid. But I’m in college now. Exams are coming up fast. Why now, Togashi-sama?!”

“The (American) presidential election is only weeks away. I’m too stressed to read about a royal family at war when my own family’s going at it 24/7!”

“I was on my first marriage when the series began. My current third wife hates manga. She won’t allow it in the house. Guess, it’s time for another divorce.”

Most old-timer fans have taken to social media, pleading to Yoshihiro Togashi-sensei—the creator of Hunter x Hunter—if he would hold back releasing new chapters until after the winter holidays.

In response, Togashi has decided to petition other manga authors to halt their series instead, leaving more time for manga fans to read his series once again. Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, has already taken Togashi’s advice and paused his series for at least two weeks. Rumors suggest other Shonen Jump authors will soon follow.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Won’t Join One Piece Live Action Due To Failed Contract Negotiations [2D News]

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Netflix’s One Piece Live Action showrunner Matt Owens both recently confirmed the superstar actor and wrestler will not be joining the cast in season two as Miss Monday, a member of Baroque Works. While no official reason has been given, 2D News sources have uncovered two big reasons as to why negotiations concluded.

The first reason being Dwayne Johnson’s insistence that Miss Monday had to win against Zoro in their battle. Most fans of The Rock know the actor hates losing fights on film, so it’s no surprise that was a non-negotiable requirement to joining the cast. Apparently, Matt Owens—during a conference call—asked Eiichiro Oda (creator of the One Piece manga of which the Netflix show is based on) if he’s okay with Zoro losing to Miss Monday.

Ghostbusters’ Slimer Coming To Dead By Daylight Sooner Than You Think [2D News]

At this point, it’s not a matter of if but when horror or horror-adjacent IPs join the popular asymmetric survival horror video game, Dead By Daylight. This time it’s the green goober itself, Slimer, representing the Ghostbusters franchise.

Slimer—the first ever ghost caught by the Ghostbusters in the original 1984 movie—quickly became a fan favorite after its introduction, making multiple appearances in later movies and even joining the Ghostbusters cast in past cartoon series as their livingly-challenged friend/pet. While a release date announcement is still months away, 2D News sources suggest a projected Late 2024/Early 2025 release.

“Make no mistake. This isn’t a nice Slimer,” said a Columbia Pictures representative’s intern waiting to pickup the office’s chicken tenders and vegan cobb salads at a local restaurant. “He’s a meaner, murderous version. He’ll slime you, limiting your mobility, then choke the life out of you. Spooky, huh?”

A Ghostbusters character hasn’t yet been confirmed as a survivor, but rumors suggest all survivors in a match will use proton packs to fight back while Slimer’s haunting powers are rumored to include phasing through walls, possessing survivors, and distracting objective-focused opponents with free Ecto Cooler.

Capcom VS Shōnen Jump Game In The Works [2D News]

With fan excitement at an all-time high thanks to the recently announced Marvel VS Capcom Fighting Collection, Capcom, the beloved video game company, has not yet revealed future plans for a Marvel VS Capcom 4. Instead, a video game industry insider has leaked knowledge of the development of a Capcom VS Shōnen Jump fighting game.

It should be noted the source is a casual anime/manga fan.

Going by descriptions, the game may include just about any and every character to ever appear in Weekly Shōnen Jump and its digital publication, Shōnen Jump+.

Anime reaction YouTubers are thrilled by the news, leading to multiple accounts of their viewership becoming hearing impaired from their high-pitched screams and continuous chanting of “Let’s Go!”.

One Piece Toilet Paper #2 Best Selling Item Of 2024 [2D News]

One Piece, the popular manga and anime, sells all sorts of merchandise from figurines to sunglasses to school supplies. Surprisingly, the second most popular One Piece merchandise—One Piece t-shirts are the number one best selling product—aren’t posters, toys, or school supplies, but the official One Piece toilet paper.

For those who don’t know, last year One Piece debuted a line of Villain Rolls for fans to express their hated for certain One Piece baddies by giving them the skid mark special, so to speak. Those unfortunate characters with their faces on toilet paper sheets include Buggy the Clown, Wet-Haired Caribou, Jack the Drought, and Arlong the Saw. This year, Rob Lucci, Hordy Jones, and Saint Charlos were added to the popular brand for the sole purpose of being crapped on with future plans for Blackbeard, Sir Crocodile, and Magellan (More of an antagonist than a villain but we get where they’re going with this choice.) to receive their own tissue rolls for “fans” to give them the ultimate mud pie salute.

With demand so high, it was only a matter of time before a new set would be announced. Rival Rolls will be, well, rolling into stores sometime this summer. This set will feature rival characters One Piece fans constantly pit against each other such as Zoro, Sanji, Dracule Mihawk, and “Red-Haired” Shanks.

One Sanji superfan already has plans to camp out at the One Piece Mugiwara Store in Tokyo, Japan the night before release day and has already began eating a diet consisting mostly of artichokes, prunes, and various bean casseroles stating “Instead of a black blade, Zoro’s getting the brown blade he deserves.” He further added, “Yes, I do have a girlfriend.” When pressed for more information, the Sanji fanboy wouldn’t give us her name or any other proof she exists.

Disney Fighting Game Begins Alpha Stage Testing [2D News]

A lucky few will soon begin play testing a Disney game no one imagined would ever be made. Arc System Works—the Japanese video game development company behind many popular fighting games such as Dragon Ball Fighterz and Guilty Gear Xrd—are in the process of sending invite keys to its official Disney 2.5D fighting game.

While not much is known about the game (labeled Project Tinkerbell until an official name is released) other than it supposedly being a 3v3 fighting game, a leaker on a popular fighting game forum confirmed six playable characters in the alpha test build: The Beast (Beauty and the Beast), Cruella De Vil (One Hundred and One Dalmatians), Peter Pan (Peter Pan), Snow White (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs), Baloo (The Jungle Book), and Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland).

That same leaker also revealed the names of other characters in Project Tinkerbell’s roster including Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty), Merlin (The Sword in the Stone), Rabbit (Winnie the Pooh), and Dopey (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs).

When asked about the rumored roster, including hopefully adding fan favorites such as Ursula the sea witch (The Little Mermaid) and Bruno Madrigal (Encanto), a Disney representative regretfully commented, “We don’t talk about Bruno.”
