End it already!

Wano’s been fun. I had a good time despite it not being one of my favorite One Piece arcs, but it’s time for this party to end. I’m turning on all the lights and playing Michael Bolton music until this you get the hint, Oda. End the damn fight, okay?!

All the signs are there it’s ending. We get major focus on the citizens of Wano, including the samurai. You’ve seen it before. The current island residents put all their faith into Luffy, building up hype before the arc villain goes down for the count. Momonosuke’s got screen time too. His purpose is saving everyone in Onigashima and the Flower Capital. The hype meter’s filling that moment up too. So, is the next chapter the one that ends it all? Well, there’s still Orochi… Damn it… It maybe another couple of chapters, or Oda quickly gets everything else resolved, revealing Kaido’s final whopping as a two-page spread at the chapter’s end. Fingers crossed!

How much longer?

Luffy’s Gear Five novelty’s wearing off. I’m ready for his fight against Kaido to end. We’ll if anything can stop Kaido, it’s lightning. But will Kaido awaken his devil fruit? Personally, I think he already has. His dragon form gotta be his fish zoan fruit’s awakened form. It makes too much sense. Maybe we’ll get a short flashback of Kaido first awakening his devil fruit during Luffy’s final attack. That seems like a very Oda thing to happen.

It’s one of those chapters.

You know the one. A fight chapter with little content to dive deep into. Luffy unlocked Gear Five, which comes complete with toon force and Gum-Gum awakening. He fights Kaido. The End.

Before starting, I just want to post a link to Greg’s YouTube video on Chapter 1044. For those who don’t know, Greg is one of the biggest One Piece fans, period. He lives in Japan, knows Eiichiro Oda and several of his editors! Follow this guy!

Alright. Let’s dive on in! It turns out Luffy’s Gum-Gum fruit is actually one of, if not, the strongest ZOAN fruit in the series: The Human-Human Fruit: Mythical Type, Model Nika. Did I mention I’m still processing this?

Here’s what I like: Gear Five.

I’ve no problem with its design or powers. Frankly, I like it better than Gear Four. I find the toon force aspect of the power up interesting and fun. All in all, I’m down for it.

Everything else… I don’t know, yet.

The laughing. Is that all Luffy or Nika’s influence? A little of both? I’m here for Monkey D. Luffy, not Sun God Nika. Gonna assume it’s a bit of both and move on. I really don’t see Oda making Gear Five a 100% body possession. It’s all so…surprising. But, hey! It’s One Piece. I’m willing to go with it.

Or did he?

Yeah. He did.

The Oda Box said so. But, we clearly see a grinning Luffy at the end. And what’s happening to Luffy’s body? Devil fruit awakening? I assume so. Oda alluded to it far too much in this arc for it not to happen. Okay, fine. But what’s all this has to do with Joy Boy? Did Joy Boy possess the Gum-Gum fruit? I guess. If not, then there’s some reincarnation hijinks going on. I’m not sure I like that. I want Luffy to win his battles, not some dead dude inhabiting his body. For now, I’m going with Joy Boy being a rubber man. It’d also explain why the World Government valued the Gum-Gum fruit so much. If anyone wields it like Joy Boy, they’d be in serious trouble. Looks like their worst fear is coming true.

But, that Oda Box, tho. Hmm… Well… I don’t know, darn it! I hope it’s a fake it out. “Luffy” lost, but “Captain Luffy” or “Monkey D. Luffy” wins? I’m at a loss for what’s going on here, Y’All.

Well, this is quite the predicament.

Luffy lost! For now, anyway. Only one option left: Gum-Gum awakening! There’s been way too much build up for it not happening here. And frankly, Kaido’s so powerful, it’s gonna take something new from Captain L to take him down. Not sure how our favorite rubber guy’s gonna access that power, but the next four to five chapters are gonna be interesting. Kaido’s defeat could end up being one of the best moments in all of One Piece. Yeah, I said it. Start readjusting your top 10 One Piece fights now, because this fight is gonna end with a galactic bang.

They say “love is pain”. So is a ceiling falling on your head.

Komurasaki AKA Hiyori’s got Shogun Orochi right where she wants him: Under rubble in a burning building. Is there anyone left to save that snake? Is Kanjuro still alive? Who knows, I just want Orochi dead already. He’s done way too much harm to not get his butt kicked. Will he die? Not sure. Oda holds the death card close to his chest. There may be a cover story in Orochi’s future. If not, then see ya, Hydra-head!

It’s official. Big Mom lost!

Emperor of the Sea, Charlotte Linlin AKA Big Mom, is down for the count. It was a hard fight, but Law & Kid pulled it off. Does that mean the two are now Emperors of the Sea? Well, if beating an Emperor doesn’t do it, nothing will. Of course, there’s the question if they even want the title. In any case, if Luffy’s considered an Emperor, they are too.

Raizo won his fight? Okay, I guess?

Law and Kid prove they’re Monkey D. Luffy’s rivals.

I said it before. I’ll say it again: Trafalgar Law and Eustass Kid had to defeat Big Mom in order to join Luffy on the top-tier plateau of current pirates. No other way around it. And, it looks like they succeeded.

Quite the feat, actually. Big Mom’s a physical force of nature with an extremely powerful and versatile devil fruit, the Soul-Soul fruit. Makes sense it’d take the combination of Law’s almost equally powerful and versatile Op-Op fruit along with the raw power of Kid’s Magnet-Magnet fruit to win. Definitely a more technical fight than Luffy and Kaido’s slug fest. If this is indeed the end of their fight, I’m very pleased.

Are there anymore big fights left other than Luffy VS Kaido? There’s Yamato’s fight with Kazenbo, but I feel that’s just a way give the strong Yamato something to do. That said, there’s a really good chance that armory is blowing up eventually. I’m curious to where Oda’s taking that sub-plot.

…get out of the floating pirate castle.

Kaido’s castle’s still on fire and not a firefighter in sight. This happens when you don’t pay property taxes, kids. Worse, Kazenbo entered the armory but Yamato’s there to put the ice power kibosh on its plans. Now he just needs to find a way to promptly deal with it. Dose it with water? Freeze it directly? Not sure how he’ll beat this monster, but don’t underestimate the power of a good bribe, Yamato!

Zoro, meet Death. What does Zoro seeing the Grim Reaper mean? Even MORE bandages, of course! Not like he’s dying or anything. Franky’s looking for him and Chopper and his medical mink friends, along with Marco, will do whatever they can to save him. Dare I say, in addition to bandages, Chopper will use…rubbing alcohol? Welcome to the true world of pain, Zoro.
