5 Things You (Don’t) Need To Know Before Watching My Hero Vigilantes

What’s wrong, friend? That FOMO feeling’s got you down? Afraid all the cool kids know about My Hero Vigilantes and you don’t? Well, I say don’t fret about it!

Seriously don’t. Just watch the anime cold and enjoy yourself.

…Still here? Fine. Here’re five spoiler-free things you can know about My Hero Vigilantes (assuming it’s a faithful adaption of the manga).

1.) You don’t need to have watched and/or read My Hero Academia to enjoy the series.

My Hero Academia (manga) started in July 2014. My Hero Vigilantes (manga) began in August 2016. The two-year old world of MHA had already established itself enough to carry a spin-off without relying on the main characters or plots from the main series.

Not to mention, the creators of My Hero Vigilantes (writer, Hideyuki Furuhashi and illustrator, Betten Court) could always run any questions or ideas by Horikoshi, ensuring nothing they did broke the main series’ continuity. Basically: Vigilantes taking place in the same world as MHA is all you need to know.

Sure, your enjoyment may be enhanced with knowledge from the main series, but it isn’t essential. My Hero Vigilantes contains it’s own story with it’s own main characters for you to invest in and join on their journey. Dekus and Bakugos need not apply!

2.) My Hero Vigilantes takes place five years before the start of My Hero Academia.

MHV is a prequel. That way its creators don’t have to keep changing course if something major happens to the world in the present main series. It gave the MHV creators additional free-reign over their story. And as a byproduct, it allowed readers to see some supporting characters from the main series when they were a bit younger, learning some things about them we never would’ve learned in MHA. A win-win for everyone.

American Cheese [Editorial]

Trying to wrap my head around it.

Is it apathy? Is the notion of bullies=strength and American cheese is all about strength? Do people still not take Tomme seriously? Do they think it’s impossible for the great American cheese not to become an authoritarian government cheese and that they opened the door to just that?

SF Debris [Hipster Hotline]

In a world where harsh language and sarcasm reign supreme in the online review world, a man will appear to provide insight and humor to an internet starved for video essays with actual effort put behind then. I’m speaking—of course—of content creator Chuck aka SF Debris.

Do you like science fiction? Do you like science fiction reviews? Then, SF Debris is the guy you want to watch. His reviews are in-depth, insightful, and just plain fun. You’ll learn something new all the while laughing at his hot takes and overall opinions. We’re all subscribed to—or follow—at least one reviewer so amazing at the craft we click their video no matter the subject knowing you’ll have fun. SF Debris is one of those people for me.

Star Trek. Star Wars. Doctor Who. Anime (Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, etc.). Western Animation (My Little Pony, Legend of Korra, etc.). SF Debris reviews them and more! He’s been at this for years, so there’s a level of experience along with a giant catalogue of content to explore. Prepare to spend hours watching his videos, but don’t blame me when you don’t get around to taking out the trash.

Highly recommended!

Elbaph Arc Predictions [One Piece]

The Egghead Island Arc is over.

(Spoilers ahead if you aren’t caught up with the One Piece manga).

Egghead was good, even if somewhat scrambled and a bit runny. We spent years anticipating Dr. Vegapunk’s official introduction into the series. Years waiting for the Straw Hats’s arrival on Wano. Now*, it’s time for the long-awaited Elbaph Island Arc to begin (*depending on how long Oda wants to focus on other characters before returning to the Straw Hats.). What can we expect? How will this newest adventure end? Can I successfully predict Oda’s actions?

Probably not. But, hey. Even broken clocks are right twice a day. Analog clocks, not digital, young’uns. Let’s begin with a whopper of a theory:

  • Uranus Destroys Elbaph.

When it comes to theories I say Go Big or Go Home. The World Government has access to the Mother Flame. King Imu and his Five Lackeys can easily predict the Straw Hats traveling to Elbaph after being rescued by giants. It’s a done deal in my book. Especially, with how much Usopp and Luffy wants to visit the island. Former Vice-Admiral Saul is there. It’s gonna be a fun time in Elbaph for all. Yep…it’s getting blown the hell up.

  • Dr. Vegapunk Stella Receives a Viking Funeral.

I’m thinking something like setting a small (giant version of small) boat on fire along with his body or burning his body at Elbaph atop a funeral pyre. Something inline with Elbaph culture.

  • Shanks and/or Mihawk Backstory.

Are they Celestial Dragons? How much do they know about the Void Century? Were they in a crew together at some point? Readers want to know. This revelation could also connect to…

World’s Best Hero: Koichi Haimawari Rally [My Hero Academia]

Did you know there’s an event currently happening to pick the best hero in the My Hero Academia Universe? Of course you do. Just like I’m sure you’ve been voting for Koichi Haimawari/Skycrawler EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Let me tell you wonder folks something. Skycrawler is the best hero in My Hero Academia and My Hero Vigilantes. He spent years out on the mean streets using his quirk to help people like you and me. And he did it without a hero license. He didn’t care that he could be arrested for vigilantism. He’s just a nice guy from a small town who does the right thing because it’s right.

Do you know who’s currently number one in the poll? Katsuki Bakugo. You think Katsuki Bakugo would risk jail to to help someone without a hero license? No. He doesn’t care about the little guy. All he cares is taking down the big bad villains. The Instant Villains? Small-time crooks? Nah. He’s all about the All For One’s and the Shigaraki’s. We don’t need a hero who doesn’t look out for the little guy!

Plus, Katsuki Bakugo is weird. He’s always yelling at people and blowing things up. Heck, his hero name is Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight. Who in their right mind is proud calling themself a “murder god”?! Weird I tell you. Just weird.

One Piece Live-Action (Season One Thoughts)

I’ll try to keep this short because most One Piece fans have already watched at least some of OPLA. If you loved it, great! I’m with you. If you hated it, great! Stick with the manga and/or anime.

Seriously, as someone who doesn’t watch the anime on a regular basis due to its slow pacing, I get it. The One Piece manga/anime is created for Japanese boys. One Piece Live-Action is made for a broader audience. It’s also tasked with fitting an entire arc into eight episodes. Entire scenes, characters, and plots had to be cut to make it work. And, I think it does work. It works surprising well. But, yeah, that all depends on someone’s personal opinions about One Piece. So, if you didn’t like the changes or what was cut, I understand why you’re not feeling it.

What’s Up with Yagi Toshinori? [My Hero Academia]

My Hero Academia v11 (2018) (Digital) (LuCaZ)

And, no. I’m not talking about my theory that he and Detective Tsukauchi are romantically involved. I’m talking about All Might’s origins, or more specifically, Yagi Toshinori’s origins as well as how he first met Nana Shimura.

Let’s be honest here, even with All Might’s appearances in My Hero Vigilantes, we know very little about his family life. Wait. Does Yagi have a family? They’ve never been referenced, hinted at, or acknowledged in any way. No phone calls or secret visits or confidential reveals to Deku, nothing. So, what’s up with that?

Well, we know Yagi was shown to have a high sense of morality in a flashback where he’s presumed to be middle school aged. That same flackblack may also be when Nana decided to make him her successor. But, that still doesn’t explain how Nana met Yagi in the first place. So, here’s my theory:

How I’d Make Marvel Comics More Popular

thumb-1920-21681

The Marvel movie franchise is one of the biggest in the world. So, why aren’t more people reading their comics? Even turning half of Marvel’s moviegoers into comics fans would send Marvel Comics into the stratosphere. Well, I have two main reasons.

1. People look down on the comic book industry.

Movies, TV, Books, and Plays are some of the many ways to tell a story. But comics have never been fully accepted by the mainstream. Even now, the average person will hear about an iconic comic character vastly changing their status quo and freak out, even though: A.) They don’t read comics. And, B.) Things will be reset after a fixed time.

And, let’s not forget the people who think only superhero and kids theme stories become comics. Calling comics a media only for kids is like saying TV is only for kids because of Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. Even, manga readers have these assumptions! Yet, if someone insults manga, calling it hentai, they’ll lose their minds. So, what can Marvel do against all that bias?

Solution: Focus on improving the comic industry’s reputation.

Lay a foundation. Many people won’t read comics if they think it isn’t cool or only for kids. The world’s full of mindless sheep like that. Marvel has to go on a huge advertising attack protecting comic legitimacy. I’m talking about TV and internet commercials. Show an ad with someone dismissing comics and have a comics fan show them how much the industry is like TV or movies, full of different genres with something for everyone. That’s right everyone. Not just geeks, not just kids. Everyone. Show the average Marvel movie fan they can read more about their favorite heroes. Show a disinterested movie date reading a mystery or romance comic. Make comics the norm and the wallets will follow.

Who Really Controls Japan? [My Hero Academia]

[WatchMHA.com]_3.21_HD.mp4_snapshot_02.01.613
Notice something odd about this government meeting?
Roughly 80% of the population in My Hero Academia has a quirk. We know that impacts a person’s future career because, at the very start of the series, All Might suggests to the quirkless Deku he joins the police. This infers either a good chunk of law enforcement don’t have quirks, or, at the very least, have quirks not suited for battle. Okay, you probably knew that. So what’s my point? It’s simple.

The quirkless rule Japan.

I can think of two reasons for this:

1. There’s not much else they can do.
Think about it. Most people with awesome quirks will find jobs where their powers can be utilized. Whether being heroes or construction or what have you (I wonder if entertainers can use their quirks?). At this point, we don’t exactly know which jobs authorize the use of quirks and which don’t. All we know is public quirk use is strictly regulated. Well, on paper anyway. We’ve seen in My Hero Vigilantes that while using your quirk in public is officially against the rules unless you’re inconveniencing others, regular citizens don’t care. Look at The Crawler or Pop Step, those two blatantly use their quirk but you don’t see anyone going narc on them.

Sexism in Anime/Manga, I Figured It Out

rebecca00

We all know anime and manga has problems concerning the female image. I was reading a new manga series in Viz’s Shonen Jump called Noah’s Notes where the girl character had pink hair (of course), big breasts (complete with cleavage), and a short school girl skirt (with plenty of up-skirt shots of her ass). No underwear, just ass. Either she doesn’t wear any or she wears a g-string. She’s basically a thirteen year old boy’s wet dream. That got me thinking.

I can go on a rant about women being treating like sex objects and that it should stop, but I won’t. Maybe, just maybe, it shouldn’t stop! I propose an idea:

Create anime/manga studios, companies, and the like with the sole purpose of creating male objectified properties.

No, I’m not talking “girl’s anime or manga”. I’m talking the same types of series aimed at males with mostly female characters and a focus on buff guys with big dicks.

Here me out.
