Wakfu: The Animated Series [Season 4 Episode 4 Review]

The true enemy of world peace—Politics.

Before we go there, I’d like to mention how much I loved this episode’s opening sequence. Wakfu turned the Eliatrope Goddess’ backstory into an AMV (Anime Music Video)! The music. The animation. The emotion. It all came together in an very fun way. Although “fun” may not be the correct word given what we saw.

As far as I can tell, The Eliatrope Goddess (E.G. if you’re nasty) hung out with the other gods/goddesses of the World of Twelve, then went traveling in space and met the Great Dragon (I spent two minutes researching before running away scared from all the lore). The two had a one-night stand in space (Giving a whole new meaning to “in space, no one can hear you scream”.), Yugo and his siblings were later born, then the other gods/goddesses—not liking her Baby Daddy (I think)—banished her to Space Nevada where she was trapped by some old pink-eyed dude. Trust me, it all looks cooler in the episode.

The other gods/goddesses found out her babies’ daddy doesn’t recycle.

Wakfu: The Animated Series [Season 4 Episode 3 Review]

The Eliatropes have chosen…peace?

This seems to be what’s happening—for now. The Eliatrope Goddess is using the Cloud Eyes as giant cameras keeping watch over most of the planet, sending her kids to deal with any trouble. Sounds too good to be true? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

In the meantime, I’m loving Yugo’s interactions with his family. His tender moments with his Goddess mother; the antagonistic relationship between him and Qilby; and connecting with his sister, Nora, while out on a mission. It’s all a treat to see. A shame the only time I’m interested in Mr. Bland Yugo is when he’s fighting or interacting with more compelling characters.

Get those hairy balls out of my face!

Poor Qilby. I know. I know. The guy almost destroyed the world. But, being trapped in a white void for centuries would screw anyone up. I’m surprised he’s got any wits left about him at all. And, hey. Points for Qilby for trying to bury the hatchet between him and Yugo. Sweet, but futile as our dear Yugo is too sanctimonious to give his own brother a second chance. Geez, dude! He only tried to destroy the world. Stop making such a big deal about it!

Adamai’s suspicious of the Eliatropes and decides to leave. Good. Go find a cliff to jump off.

Wakfu: The Animated Series [Season 4 Episode 2 Review]

Episode Title: The Goddess of Love

What the heck? Might as well review this season one episode at a time. Especially since I’m loving the heck out of it so far.

Another banger of an episode! Episode two basically puts a bow on season three’s remaining characters and introduces us to the important characters of this season.

This includes the Eliatrope Goddess and Nora, Yugo and Adamai’s mother and sister respectively. And we can’t forgot their evil brother Qilby. He’s free from the state of Vermont—oh sorry—the White Dimension and ready to…I don’t know. Do stuff? I just love how eager he is to narc on Yugo for locking him up. Qilby’s that kid who always starts sh*t with his siblings but tattles the second things don’t go his way. I love it.

We’re also introduced to a blind Cra assassin. He’s listening in on the Percedal Family. What could that mean? Here’s a hint: He’s not gonna offer his services as a nanny.

Wakfu: The Animated Series [Season 4 Episode 1 Review] [Hipster Hotline]

Because you demanded it, let’s talk about Wakfu: The Animated Series.

After reviewing Wakfu season three as a whole, I think it’d be better to do a full review of the fourth and final season once I’ve watched all thirteen episodes. If it’s anything like season three, I might have to watch it twice to really understand my feelings and give a more accurate assessment of my thoughts. But, since Wakfu doesn’t get nearly as much recognition as it deserves, I want to give my first impressions of the first episode—currently the only season four episode I’ve seen.

Short answer: I loved it!

Long answer: Here are my thoughts…

Wakfu: The Animated Series – Season 3 Review [Hipster Hotline]

What is Wakfu? Should you watch it?

First things first, in case you don’t know what it is, Wakfu: The Animated Series is an anime-influenced French television series produced by Ankama Animation, based on the video game Dofus. More specifically, Wakfu is based on the game called—erm—Wakfu, and is an action/adventure series that isn’t afraid to be goofy, which again, is very anime-ish.

If you came here wondering if you should give it a watch, I HIGHLY recommend the series. But, that comes with three warnings:

1.) Be wary of the English dub. Ruel’s English dub voice is awful. It took me out of the story. If you have a problem with any of the English voices then watch the original French dub with subtitles.

2.) Wakfu: The Animated Series takes its lore from the Dofus and Wakfu MMORPG games. Do not expect the show to explain the World of Twelve. Seriously, I played Dofus for a couple of years back around when the show first started and even I’m confused by the lore. You are dunked into the Krosmoz universe and are expected to swim. It’s not a deal breaker but you may be confused at times and won’t understand game references or game character cameos. It also doesn’t help that some of jokes, I feel, work better or make more sense if you’re French.

3.) The Gobbowl episodes. Season one and season two both have 3 episodes each dedicated to the main cast playing Gobbowl, a soccer/American football-ish game that’s popular in the World of Twelve. Despite having some good moments, I didn’t care for them. They didn’t need to be 3 episodes long in both seasons and I feel like the show mainly did it to promote Ankama’s failed Gobbowl game.

All that said, give the show a chance. It’s really fun and I can’t recommend it enough. There will be series spoilers going forward.

Disney Fighting Game Begins Alpha Stage Testing [2D News]

A lucky few will soon begin play testing a Disney game no one imagined would ever be made. Arc System Works—the Japanese video game development company behind many popular fighting games such as Dragon Ball Fighterz and Guilty Gear Xrd—are in the process of sending invite keys to its official Disney 2.5D fighting game.

While not much is known about the game (labeled Project Tinkerbell until an official name is released) other than it supposedly being a 3v3 fighting game, a leaker on a popular fighting game forum confirmed six playable characters in the alpha test build: The Beast (Beauty and the Beast), Cruella De Vil (One Hundred and One Dalmatians), Peter Pan (Peter Pan), Snow White (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs), Baloo (The Jungle Book), and Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland).

That same leaker also revealed the names of other characters in Project Tinkerbell’s roster including Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty), Merlin (The Sword in the Stone), Rabbit (Winnie the Pooh), and Dopey (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs).

When asked about the rumored roster, including hopefully adding fan favorites such as Ursula the sea witch (The Little Mermaid) and Bruno Madrigal (Encanto), a Disney representative regretfully commented, “We don’t talk about Bruno.”

Wakfu Wakview: Season 3 Episode 2 – Like Father, Like Daughter

wakfu3021
Aww! Miss Elely gonna smash your wittle face.

Episode two picks up with Elely dragging her beat up dad, Percedal, to safety. In true Iop fashion, Percedal lets his young child go off to fight a giant bear-man alone—as you do. It’s the Iop version of a child’s first errand. And surprise, Elely can kick ass! Guess it makes sense with Percedal as your dad. I don’t want to imagine fighting anything barefoot in the snow. And Evil Kevin Smith’s only wearing a speedo—one of the few times being a hipster isn’t a good idea.

Darkwing Duck in Ducktales, For Real? Who Cares, Let’s Talk About Negaduck!

ducktales01

Ducktales’ latest episode, Beware the B.U.D.D.Y. System! featured a one minute cold open set in St. Canard. Yes, my friends, we got the see Darkwing Duck in Ducktales…as a TV show.

Don’t misunderstand, I LOVED every second of Darkwing. My brain almost imploded! But, why a TV show? I get it, mostly. It’s a way to make Darkwing Duck Launchpad’s hero. And it worked. We now know Launchpad’s a crash manic because of Darkwing’s motto: Let’s get dangerous. I love it, and I love the episode. It has Fenton and Gizmoduck’s introduction into the reboot universe, that’s an instant ten across the board. But what about my Darkwing Duck spin-off? How will they pull it off?

Yes, I said how not if. No freaking way the showrunners closed the door on a Disney Channel Darkwing Duck TV show. He’s the most likely character to spin-off from Ducktales. My guess? An alternate universe. Yeah, it’s convoluted (have Darkwing being real makes more sense, but what you gonna do?). See, Gyro makes a dimensional portal and voila! Launchpad can visit St. Canard anytime he wants.
