My Hero Academia Fans Excited Over My Hero Vigilantes Anime Announcement (Even Though They Have No Idea What That Is) [2D News]

If you’re an average My Hero Academia fan, you’re probably happy your favorite series is getting an anime original sequel.

Well, I got some new for you:

  1. My Hero Vigilantes is a prequel that begins roughly five years before the start of My Hero Academia. And…
  2. The story is based on the spin-off manga, My Hero Vigilantes written by Hideyuki Furuhashi and illustrated by Betten Court.

Is it good? Yes. Yes! YES! It’s good. But, if you’re thinking this is just another battle shonen series like My Hero Academia, then think again.

My Hero Vigilantes is a more street-level character-focused series. Sure, it’s got action, but it’s not the focus. Think of it more as a Shonen slice-of-life series and you’ll be fine. The trade-off with there being less action is more time to develop the main and supporting characters. MHV draws it’s audience in with fun and interesting characters while expanding on the lore of the My Hero world. It’s not MHA’s successor. It’s an addendum to that universe.

Look, don’t think about it too hard, alright? It’s not My Hero Academia but a separate story taking place in that same world. When April rolls around, sit back, relax and have a good time watching it.

Then regret making Bakugo the World’s Best Hero and not Koichi. How DARE you not vote for him! Number 34?! You bastards! I’ll get you for this! I swear! You’ll PAAAAYYYYYY!!!!!!!

Library of Progress [One Piece 1134]

Everyone’s so happy. It’d be a shame if a couple baddies teleported down onto a magic pentagram circle to ruin it.

Let’s jump right into the last pages. Dark lightning/energy? A summoning circle we’ve seen only the Five Elders previously use? Someone looking like Shanks appears? It’s gotta be Saint Figarland Garling!

Makes since if the theory he’s Shank’s father is true. King Imu gives him the power to look younger and BLAM! He’s on Elbaph disguised as Shanks on the same island he knows the Straw Hat Crew escaped to. Now he can hunt down Lilith, destroy Ohara’s books (if he finds out they still exist), and geniuely be a pain in the butt to any and everyone on Elbaph. Perfect. I’m such a genius!

…Hm? What is it, fellow reader? Last page of One Piece 1121? No, I don’t reme—

Shanks’s twin brother, Spanks. He likes it rough.

Oh.

Well maybe I am over thinking things and it’s just Shanks’ brother.

Wakfu: The Animated Series [Season 4 Episode 9 Review]

Oropo’s back? NOOOO!

Noximilien. Qilby. Oropo. Toross Mordal. The Big Bads of Wakfu. One of these baddies suck. Care to guess which one?

…Qilby?

WRONG! I’m so disappointed in you, dear reader. No Yugo energy dinner for you!

Last episode ended with Yugo’s capture by Mordal. We open this episode, not surprisingly, with our favorite hero confined to a Wakfu sucking tower for the nutritional enjoyment of the residents of evil in Necroworld. Talk about a biohazard.

If Yugo’s Wakfu energy’s completely drained he dies or becomes a Wakfu Zombie. But, not to worry because…

(1.) Mordal knows how to ration Wakfu and…

(2.) Yugo’s got help in the form of…Oropo.

You’ve seen it before, my fellow anime/anime-adjacent cartoon fans. The Big Bad is super powerful—almost unstoppable—so the hero(es) must find a way to level up their skills, train to become stronger, or simply bullsh*t their way to ultimate victory.

Little Yugo’s getting a bit of all three.

Welcome to adulthood, Yugo. Enjoy your complimentary stack of bills and bowl of responsibilities.

~Mind Training~

Yep. Yugo’s mind training to up his EXP Points thanks to Oropo and Bouillon, two of Yugo’s unplanned kids (I guess Bouillon’s a Eliatrope despite not having Wakfu horns. Maybe glowing eyes is enough?) living in Yugo’s subconscious? Consciousness? Whatever. It’s all bullsh*t to make Yugo powerful enough to stop Mordal once he escapes. And you KNOW he’s gonna escape at some point.

When Nico Robin’s Happy, We’re Happy [One Piece 1133]

It’s a long time coming. Good for you, Robin!

Nico Robin reunites with her childhood friend, Saul. A very straightforward chapter that needed to be this way.

Oda’s got no problem jumping scene-to-scene within an One Piece chapter. A chapter can feature dozens of named characters shown in different parts of an island or even throughout the entire world in order to advance the plot. The fact that Oda focused most of this chapter exclusively on Robin shows just how important she and her reunion with Saul is to the series.

When we first saw Robin’s childhood flashback we had little information on why the Five Elders were willing to destroy an entire island just to cover up the past. Looking back at it now with what we currently know about the history of Planet…um…One Piece, I understand why the World Government is so determined to find her.

“Actually, it’s Dr. Saul now. Dereshi Shi Shi!!”

Sun Wooorld Over The Rainbow♪ [One Piece 1132]

Luffy’s gonna free Loki, isn’t he?

Obviously Luffy’s been tricked by Loki into helping him escape. Loki even mentions in a previous chapter that the key to his chains is located somewhere in the Elbaph village.

It makes sense Luffy got duped given Loki’s also referred to as the God of Mischief. A Trickster God, if you will. Yep, ole Luffy’s been Gum-Gum Bamboozled.

I’m interested in seeing if most or all of the giants will turn on the Straw Hat Pirates if Luffy does indeed free Loki. Either way, Loki is bringing harsh conflict, violent Sun God battles, and a world-ending Ragnarök. Yay!

Blue Shell incoming!

Wakfu: The Animated Series [Season 4 Episode 8 Review]

Yugo? No no. Yu-stay!

Our heroes meet Toross Mordal, King of Necroworld. Spoiler: It doesn’t end well.

But all of that happens in the back half of the episode. Lets backtrack a bit, shall we?

Eva reads Flopin’s note while she and the rest of the Percedal Family search for him. Eva’s devastated, of course. But after reading her son’s letter, she decides it’s better to let Flopin go off with her deadbeat super assassin dad and live his own life, no matter how painful that decision is.

For the record, Eva, I agree. Flopin wants to get stronger and see the world. Let him. It’s better than dragging his butt back home and have him be resentful of you and his awesome demi-god siblings. I don’t know if we’ll see the fruits of Flopin’s training before the season ends, but if there’s ever is a fifth season or sequel series I look forward to seeing what happens to the little guy.

*SIGH!*

…It’s back. Ruel’s subplot…

Look on the bright side. Flopin’s room’s free so Goultard doesn’t have to sleep in the bathtub anymore.

Fortunately, it’s short. Just long enough to punish the audience by reminding us it’s still a thing. Basically, Ruel’s wife, Arpagone, is traveling the World of Twelve, donating Ruel’s wealth to charitable organizations. Ruel’s pissed and wants to stop her. Don’t they have police in this world? Call them! Eh, whatever.

Thank goodness that fart of a subplot is blown away by the incredible main plot.

Eiichiro Oda Visits Netflix’s One Piece Live Action Set [2D News]

Weeks ago, Eiichiro Oda—creator of the hit manga, One Piece—visited Netflix’s live-action One Piece set located in South Africa in order to “oversee production”, making sure the hit show doesn’t sway from Oda’s core vision.

And while that is indeed true, a source close to the cast and crew of the series, who wishes to remain anonymous, has come forth with the whole story.

According to this secret source, Eiichiro Oda was quite the fun guy while on set. Quote the source:

“It’s clear Mr. Oda hadn’t had a real vacation in years, so spent every available moment trying to get his party on. He really brought the energy up on set. It was wild!”

Maybe a little too wild, as the source when on to say throughout his visit, Oda reportedly took hundreds of goofy pictures of himself with the cast (for his own private collection to never be released), raced crewmembers in carts designed to drive around the showrunners and directors, and even took everyone white-water rafting on an off-day.

The snitching source also learned the very private Oda was talked into doing a “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo” as a background marine officer in a Lougetown scene. Unfortunately, the scene had to be reshot without him due to Oda’s inability to stand after injuring himself at the previous night’s cast and crew after-shoot party where a rap battle contest and twerking contest were both held.

Oda received first place in one of the contests, but the source refused to answer in which.

Luffy’s Frosty Rubber Nips [One Piece 1131]

Seriously, isn’t he cold out there?

At first I thought Prince Loki wasn’t a Sun God, just someone impersonating one. You know. Since Luffy is the Sun God. But! What if Luffy’s A sun god, not THE sun god? Luffy ate the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika. It’s possible Loki’s family passed down another Human-Human devil fruit similar to Joy Boy’s version. Well, I doubt Loki’s a rubber man, but seeing as he’s in Elbaph’s “Underworld” with no sun, I bet he feeds on its power. Think Oda’s version of an evil Superman. The more solar energy Loki absorbs, the stronger he gets. A good theory, if I say so myself.

Shanks and Loki know each other, huh? Did Shanks have a hand in stopping Loki six years ago? Probably. No doubt it’s why the Red-Haired Pirates are allies with the giants of Elbaph since Warland sure as heck doesn’t need protection on a regular basis. Gotta say, I’m liking Luffy meeting the possible Big Bad of the arc early. Yep, I’m still not 100% sold on Loki being the final villain of the arc, but he’s still up there. Like a 90% chance it’s gonna be him. Anything other than that will be Oda fooling us all, which can happen.

Wakfu: The Animated Series [Season 4 Episode 7 Review]

Toross Mordal wants to know your location. And, no, he’s not asking permission.

I think it’s safe to say the undisputed king of the Necroworld will be this season’s Big Bad. Toross Mordal’s his name; eating wakfu’s his game. And by what looks to be six Dofus attached to his body, he’s playing for keeps. Not that it wasn’t obvious considering he kept the Eliatrope Goddess prisoner for centuries. Safe to say, the World of Twelve is screwed when he decides to take an Uber there himself.

What I find interesting is the other World of Twelve gods not only banished the E.G. to Necroworld knowing it’s residents could keep her imprisoned, but—if Nora’s correct—they did it to also gain more followers. It’s not that farfetched a theory considering Necroworld is described by Nora as a “rotten reflection of the World of Twelve”. Necroworld is the way it is because of that planet’s Dofus. It’s what could have happened if Yugo really screwed up using the Eliatrope Dofus back in the OVA.

School field trips when having social anxiety.

Not that the other World of Twelve gods care. They simply want more worshippers/followers. And you thought YouTube content creators where evil!

American Cheese [Editorial]

Trying to wrap my head around it.

Is it apathy? Is the notion of bullies=strength and American cheese is all about strength? Do people still not take Tomme seriously? Do they think it’s impossible for the great American cheese not to become an authoritarian government cheese and that they opened the door to just that?
