God Valley Goodbye [One Piece 1166]

Settle down, children! Class is in session!

Can anyone tell me the purpose of the God Valley Incident?

Answer: Setup.

The Rocks Pirates’ reason for going and their break-up, mostly meaningless. Just a means to an end. That end is, of course, being How To Take Down The World Government (and Imu).

Joyboy took his shot and missed. Rocks, a decendent of Davy D. Jones, never got to see his plans fully go to fruition before dying. BUT, in doing so, allowed his son, Blackbeard, to survive and give it the ole Davy try in the present. And while Blackbeard isn’t ready to destroy the World Government, he’s well on his way! He’s got the crew, the darkness-darkness fruit, and someone willing to spill the beans on Pluton’s hidden location beneath Wano.

What’s left for Blackbeard to do before giving the World Government the D. Clan boot? Finding the One Piece! Whatever’s on Laugh Tale may be the key to ultimately destroying the WG and Blackbeard needs it! That and some Eternal Flame to power Pluton. What? You think it’s gonna run on AA batteries? But that’s a discussion for another time.

If only Garling hadn’t brought that paper mache sword, he never would’ve beaten Rocks.

So, Rocks is dead, but we learned Imu’s Domi Reversi curse can be reversed with enough haki. I smell a Luffy and Loki team-up against Imu!

Oda skipped a scene showing Rayleigh and Gaban saving Roger and Garp from God’s Knights. Why? Heck if I know. Probably to hide Gaban’s knowledge that Supreme King haki infused attacks affects the Knights ability to regenerate. Absolutely unnecessary. Every fricking thing doesn’t need to be hidden up to the last second, Oda!

The Roger Pirates find Baby Shanks inside of a treasure chest. I guess his full name’s printed on his clothes somewhere. Hey, mom had to tell him and Shamrock apart someway.

Oda trying his hardest to give the One Piece Live Action cast enough outfits.

Um…what destroyed God Valley? A low powered Uranus? Makes sense. That or Imu built a Starbucks and let nature take its course.

Garp and Sengoku are on the same page concerning hating WG corruption. But while Sengoku wants to gain as high a position in the Navy as possible to low-key fight it, Garp decides to try dealing with it in a lower rank, granting him more freedom to work outside of the box.

SWORD is their idea isn’t it, Oda? Damn it! Just say it. Stop with the buildup and have them say it!

Loki thought Rocks was Nika. Boy, is he in for a surprise when he first sees Luffy enter Gear 5. Also, Rocks mentions Galleila, the group of tough giant shipwrights—whom I’m sure have no connection to The Galley-La Company and Pluton in any way, shape, or form, heh.

Hmm… Galleila are important players in the final war… The Straw Hats saw them frozen on Punk Hazard… And Loki will probably ally himself with Nika/Luffy… Gee, I wonder if—Okay, enough sarcasm! Loki freeing Galleila or something to that effect has to go down later in the story. Or, should I say, cover story!

King Harald. <—-This dumbass.

You know what? I’m not gonna put all the blame on Harald for submitting to the World Government/EVIL Celestial Dragons, even though when he snuck into the Holy Land, they clearly wanted to murder or make him a slave for no other reason than he looked unique to them. …Never mind, I put all the blame on Harald D. Umbass!

If only Harald had a “best friend” who could’ve warned him the World Government was secretly controlled by an evil ruler. That would’ve been nice, huh?

Where’s Malcolm X when you need him?

This was an okay chapter! It took some dumb character decisions to get here, but we’re done with God Valley and about to see the fall of Harald. These next few chapters are gonna hurt, won’t they? At least Oda is teaching his readers a valuable lesson:

NEVER give in to fascists! Oh! And, pay your Starbucks employees a fair wage or they’ll destroy your business along with the island it was built upon.
