Wakfu: The Animated Series [Season 4 Episode 8 Review]

Yugo? No no. Yu-stay!

Our heroes meet Toross Mordal, King of Necroworld. Spoiler: It doesn’t end well.

But all of that happens in the back half of the episode. Lets backtrack a bit, shall we?

Eva reads Flopin’s note while she and the rest of the Percedal Family search for him. Eva’s devastated, of course. But after reading her son’s letter, she decides it’s better to let Flopin go off with her deadbeat super assassin dad and live his own life, no matter how painful that decision is.

For the record, Eva, I agree. Flopin wants to get stronger and see the world. Let him. It’s better than dragging his butt back home and have him be resentful of you and his awesome demi-god siblings. I don’t know if we’ll see the fruits of Flopin’s training before the season ends, but if there’s ever is a fifth season or sequel series I look forward to seeing what happens to the little guy.

*SIGH!*

…It’s back. Ruel’s subplot…

Look on the bright side. Flopin’s room’s free so Goultard doesn’t have to sleep in the bathtub anymore.

Fortunately, it’s short. Just long enough to punish the audience by reminding us it’s still a thing. Basically, Ruel’s wife, Arpagone, is traveling the World of Twelve, donating Ruel’s wealth to charitable organizations. Ruel’s pissed and wants to stop her. Don’t they have police in this world? Call them! Eh, whatever.

Thank goodness that fart of a subplot is blown away by the incredible main plot.

Team Yugo—mostly Yugo and Adamai—are accusing Qilby of working with the Necros. Yeah, I get it Yugo. Qilby was a villain years ago and nearly helped destroy the World of Twelve, but you gotta have proof before you get all up in someone’s face, bro. Then again, if you almost destroy the planet, you don’t really deserve much consideration.

In any case, Qilby makes a good point about him not having the power to create portals between worlds without the Eliacube or Dofus, so it probably isn’t him.

Oh, who am I kidding? We all know Qilby’s a red herring and somehow Zombie Efrim’s behind it. We just need to learn HOW seeing as dragons can’t create portals. Hmm…

Yugo’s in full hothead mode so he and Qilby duke it out in freefall towards the ground! What a great way to have them battle.

♪Throw your hands in air. And punch him like you just don’t care.♪

Too bad for Yugo, he forgot to turn on his main character plot armor and lost the fight. Qilby gets a trust endorsement from the Eliatrope Goddess while Nora notes she’s been keeping an eye on him ever since he was freed from the White Dimension, assuring the others Qilby hasn’t had time to make a deal with the Necros.

I love the show logically saying Qilby isn’t responsible for the portals while Yugo is seething with rage, convinced he is due to his brother’s past deeds. It reminds me how people in general don’t always think logically when it comes to family. Or, much of anything else really.

Team Yugo take the Necros’ Sadida Kingdom portal to the Necroworld, confirming without a doubt it’s of Eliatrope origin, then are all somehow shocked when the Necros closed the portal, trapping them on their dead planet. I should expect no less from a group lead by Yugo. Ugh!

Huge props to the animators, writers, and music crew for elevating this episode into the stratosphere. Toross Mordal comes off as a genuine threat. He’s creepy, confident, and oh so powerful! This guy is, as the kids say, HIM. A monster who sees our heroes as nothing more than a free McWakfu unhappy meal.

Suffice to say, Team Yugo gets stomped, forcing Adamai to pass the Eliatrope Dofus to Qilby so he can create a portal home and they can get the hell out of there.

Life Lesson #23: If you punch someone in the face and they don’t move—RUN!

Buuuut, not before Toross Mordal grabs Yugo! Our favorite Eliatrope (By “our” I mean you because he sure ain’t mine.) is now trapped, alone on Necroworld. Well, not exactly alone. Mordal and the other wakfu sucking zombies will keep him plenty of company. Looks like Uber-Portal Eats is getting another 5-star rating from Mordal.

Like I said, incredible episode. The plot, cinematography, writing, animation, music, all of it came together brilliantly. And there’s still five episodes left to go! If Ankama Animation can keep up the quality, this could end up being the best season of Wakfu, period.

This week’s Wakfu Award goes to Ruel for reminding me how awful his story has gotten. Can someone throw him through a Necroworld portal? Please?
