There’s bad news and then there’s BAD news. Dr. Vegapunk just gave the entire world an excuse to crap their pants at the same time.
That’s right, dear friends. The water level is rising all over the world and it will eventually flood every island in the world! Well, except for Fishman Island… and all the sky islands. And, conveniently, Mary Geoise. Hmm… Is flooding the world Team Imu’s endgame?
Sure, at first I thought, King Imu & The Old Dirty Bastards wanted the Mother Flame just to power Uranus so they can destroy the non-World Government islands and keep absolute power over the rest out of fear via Star Wars‘ evil Empire. But. That’s. Not. Evil. Enough.
One Piece is a Shonen series and Shonen manga looove mega evil final villains. Destroying the world is the bare minimum requirement for a Shonen final boss. Plus—you know—the Five Elders and Imu aren’t exactly fond of their subjects. They’re all insects to them and Uranus is their big bug zapper from hell.
Is Nico Robin hearing Dr. Vegapunk’s message? It’s kinda a big deal. I’d hate for her to miss it. But, I guess the newspaper will print a transcript so maybe Oda is saving the Straw Hat crew’s reaction for later.
Where is the video transponder snail? If it’s not inside Punk Records then I don’t know. Inside Vegaforce-1? Maybe one of the Vegapunk Satellites stashed it inside the Thousand Sunny? Eh. Who knows?
Hmm… I guess it can’t be on the Thousand Sunny if my theory about York is correct. I’m thinking she’s gonna find and deactivate the video transponder snail right before Vegapunk Stella says something really juicy. Probably before he reveals the name of the Ancient Civilization or the existence of King Imu, which is strange because how the heck would Vegapunk know there’s a secret King of the World? Anyway, like it or not, the League of Evil Geriatrics need York to create the Mother Flame.
This was a good chapter! Oda once again throws his readers a curve ball by having Vegapunk tell us something unexpected. Sure, the clues where there all along, but the rising sea level is even more important than anyone ever realized. You know? I bet King Imu’s watching the broadcast too. Either that, or binge watching Fleabag.
