Japan’s Government will soon pass a law banning the release of new isekai media in the country for one year.
Anime and manga fans will know isekai (a genre where someone is transported, reborn, or otherwise placed in a different world or universe, usually with a fantasy setting) have become all the rage over the years, to the point where its completely oversaturated anime and manga markets all over the world.
As of this post, 87 new isekai-related stories have been released throughout various forms of media so far this year with no signs of slowing down. In fact, with the No Isekai Law coming into effect sometime this winter anime season in Japan—manga, anime, and video game companies are all planning to release their entire inventory of isekai media estimating in total to be over 500 titles.
Any Japanese based company ignoring the law once it takes effect could be fined up to 2 million yen per violation and face two to five years in prison or banishment to a virtual RPG world.
