A greedy, apathetic doctor who doesn’t care about anyone but themself? Impossible! Well, not today because we now know which Dr. Vegapunk is the traitor: York The Greedy. She wants to become a Celestial Dragon. Hmm… I guess that makes sense with her being “greedy” and all. Honesty, it doesn’t really matter who the traitor was, as long as it moves the story forward. Props to Oda for not dragging the mystery out too long. Just long enough for us to learn the truth along with OG Dr. Vegapunk.
I don’t think the mystery itself matters much anyway. It was simply a tool to breakup our heroic cast of characters and give reason to why the World Government’s now Vegapunk’s enemy. The real fun comes from what York has in store for everyone. What? You think her whole plan is just turning the Seraphim on her fellow Vegapunks? Nah! Her goal is to keep all the other Vegapunks on Egghead Island until the Navy shows up. Everything from the Seraphim, to shutting down the dome barrier, to kidnapping Vegapunk Stella is to ensure that happens. Did she secretly complete more Seraphim in case she needed them? Can she override the Mk. III Pacifistas? There’s so much bullsh*t York can throw at Team Luffy I’m excited to know what’s next.
Lilith, Pythagoras, and Shaka have all been neutralized. Edison’s half dead. Vegapunk Stella’s captured. All that’s left is Astro Atlas, who is probably the strongest of the Las Vegas. Hope she got an upgrade when she was repaired.
The Egghead Incident. What will happen that will rock the world beyond anything we’ve seen so far? It just so happens I made a list of possible conclusions to this arc.
- Saint Saturn dies. If Oda’s gonna kill an Elder Star, now is the time. If that’s not a point of no return for the Straw Hats, nothing is.
- Dr. Vegapunk broadcasts Void Century knowledge throughout the world. Basically, Pandora’s Ancient Kingdom Box is opened, forcing the World Government to play their endgame cards.
- Admiral Kizaru is defeated. Can you imagine Kizaru getting stomped on Egghead? A navy admiral getting KO’d never happened in the series, yet. TMZ will be all over that sh*t!
Whatever happens, it’s gonna outshine anything Kid, Shanks, Blackbeard, or Law will do. And that’s scary to think about.
Will Neo Mads reunite with Queen? It’s the perfect opportunity with Kaido defeated. I’ve heard rumors throughout the net that Cross Guild could sponsor them. Makes sense to me. Cross Guild looks to be something created specifically for One Piece’s final arc. They’re gonna be a huge powerhouse and Neo Mads is just the type of group Sir Crocodile will welcome into the fold with open hook arms.
This was a good chapter! We got the traitor reveal and why she’s doing it. I’m sure there’s more to it but I’m glad Oda is going all in on information. He even gave us a few panels on Bonney. If she’s a clone then her story should be unfolding soon. Did I ever mention I’m a clone? Yep. I’m a clone of a douchebag Hollywood director. Of course, I’m nothing like him. *SIP!* …What? This pistachio latte’s cold! Get me another or you’re fired!!!

Any of those 3 outcomes would rock the world like no other event- especially when an Emperor is involved in the mix. All 3 TOGETHER, though- Morgan’s would have to change his pants!! Maybe something with a bit more pockets.
I see people pointing out what Lilith said about the Robot Sea Kings from the beginning of the arc and how it was a hint to York’s true nature. And honestly: It’s not a bad idea. “Desire” can drive people to do some pretty bad things- and some Good. Luffy’s “Desire” has changed the world wherever he’s gone, but YORK…… this is purely and utterly selfish; something only in HER best interest. Then again- she IS just a fragment of Vegapunk.
Seeing the funding and “Freedom” the Celstial Dragons have; ANYONE would covet that! I can’t say that I blame her for wanting that position, but she’s let it go too far.
It also tells us a little bit about Stellapunk that his “Greed” spawned this desire. I wonder what kind of things he’s come up with with that kind of Unlimited Funding- or what York will do if she gets her wish. Not that I think she will.
Cross Guild Funding Neo MADs? Eh, why not. Like you said: Cross Guild seems to be something created for the Finale. Why NOT start getting their name out their more? They’re gonna need funding themselves to pay the Pirates that bring in bigger name Marines like Smoker, Koby, or the lucky sum’ b!tch that can bring in an ADMIRAL. Neo MADs inventions would DEFINITELY fetch a pretty penny- not to mention it takes some of the burden off Mihawk as their defense from the Marines.
Man, this is the BEST that “One Piece” has been in a WHILE. Every post time skip arc has had moments, but let’s not kid ourselves here: The series hasn’t been this Great since the Time Skip! But Egghead I feel like has made people start to love this series again. If the anime adaptation can get really good pacing and Wano level animation during the fights(without going……. THAT Hard), then…… We’re looking At the Best Post Time Skip Arc, And we’ve STILL got Elbaf and the Throne Wars coming!

Stella must know the World Government is shady but still works for them because he gets funding. Sure, he wants to help people but he’s not above wanting to help himself too. That said, I still want more answers to why York turned traitor. Is she simply greedy or was she tired of being underestimated by the other Vegapunks (her primary function seemed to be eating, sleeping and crapping for the others).
I have to agree with you about this being some of the best OP since the time skip (Wano may be my least favorite arc) but Egghead has the benefit of pulling in more endgame elements than all the other arcs. It may be safe to say that Elbaf will also be an arc where the focus bounces from the SHs to other VIPs in the One Piece world.
