Didn’t like it.
I assume the story team wanted a more character driven, intimate season with a focus on Angel and Illyria’s pasts. But, why did it have to be so boring?
~The Good Stuff~
– Illyria’s backstory, as a concept, was nice.
– Angelus and Daria, great! The beetle zombies were interesting. And, we get our real Angelus VS Angel fight! Best arc of the season.
– The Aunts. Always a treat seeing them.
– Angel and his sister’s ring. A great heartfelt moment. The whole guilt over Kathy’s death was something I never thought about. You don’t hear Angel talking much about his human family expect his father, now we know why. Everything with Angel and Kathy gets an A.
~The Bad Stuff~
– Overall plot wasn’t interesting. Didn’t care about Big Bad paradox plant or time traveling in general. This series made time traveling boring…wow!
– Wish we had more than Angel and Fred/Illyria this season. Completely bored during most their conversations. Didn’t help they either talked about the same things over and over or had uninteresting conversations.
– The pacing seemed slow. The plot dragged its feet the entire season. Maybe the plot could’ve worked as a novel, but as a comic it didn’t work, at all.
– Angel sleeping with Illyria. Really, comic? It was only interesting from Fred’s perspective. Completely written for shock value, like they needed more story conflict and threw it in because why not.
Angel season eleven is an interesting concept wrapped in poor execution. I miss Faith, but I’ve had years of Faith-free Angel. Honestly, anyone else traveling along for the ride, bouncing off Angel and Fred/Illyria would’ve helped. Those two as our only heroes just didn’t work for me. Angel season ten dropped the ball at the end, but this season, again, bored me from issue one. Easily the worst season of Angel, period.
