I love podcasts. Whether I’m eating, taking a shower or doing the dishes, I can always find time to listen to a good podcast. Unfortunately, podcasts don’t last forever. Comic Book Queers, Hellmouth Podcast, and Ultimate Facepalm are just a few of the many great podcasts to have came and left from my life.
Because podcasts don’t last forever, and even favorites like Super Podcasto Magnifico! or Hollywood Babble-On can never realistically make enough new content to satisfy me, other podcasts must fill the void. Which brings us to the question: Where are the My Hero Academia podcasts?
Yes, I said podcasts. This show should be popular enough to have at least two podcasts but I can’t fine one. Sure, there was a My Hero Academia podcast but its dead. And yes, manga podcasts talk about the series, such as Weekly Manga Recap, but a weekly podcast dedicated only to all things My Hero Academia just doesn’t exist. Why?
YouTube is the biggest reason. Search YouTube and you’ll find reviews, reactions and theories to keep any My Hero Academia fan listening for weeks. So, why am I complaining? Simple, I want more. I want a My Hero Academia podcast/channel containing three things:
1. More Than One Person.
2. In-depth Discussions.
3. Miscellaneous My Hero Academia Content.
1. More Than One Person
While there are plenty of single hosted podcasts, one of the main reasons I enjoy podcasts is the interaction between a cast. Two, three, four people, it doesn’t matter as long as they are having a genuinely good time talking to each other and about the subject at hand. A group podcast with great chemistry is enjoyable no matter the subject. I haven’t read a Spider-Man comic in years but I keep listening to Spider-Man Crawlspace because of the passion and comradely between the panel. You can’t fake that, and listening makes you feel like part of the gang, among friends. And who doesn’t like spending time with good friends?
2. In-depth Discussions
While I love Weekly Manga Recap and other manga podcasts who give My Hero Academia love, I need more in-depth discussions, well thought out fan theories, and obsessive detail fan talk only hardcore readers would notice. You can’t get that listening to general manga podcasts because they have the challenge of balancing multiple series within a limited time. It’s like they say: Jack of all trades, master of none. I want reviews to go deep, super fan borderline psycho deep. You just can’t get that with a general manga podcast.
3. Additional My Hero Academia Content
I’ve been talking about the main My Hero Academia story but there’s also a spin-off manga series called Vigilante: Boku no Hero Academia Illegals (My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, the official English name). Again, being obsessed with My Hero Academia, I want more than main series discussions. Vigilantes reviews, My Hero Academia anime reviews, as well as anything else related to the series, I want a podcast smashed with everything My Hero Academia.
Will us insane My Hero Academia fans ever get the podcast or YouTube channel we want? Maybe. Perhaps floating somewhere in this vast radioactive internet ocean is somewhere we hero nuts can call home. If you ever find it, or create it, let me know.
